For the bulk of 2021, Kenny Omega was the top dog in AEW. He started the year as AEW World Champion, and would almost make the full year during that reign – until being stopped by Hangman Page. Following this match, Omega would finally have a chance to take some time off, and that time was needed due to some nagging issues like vertigo and an injured shoulder. He’d tell The Young Bucks to keep The Elite intact, before leaving AEW TV. As of writing, there is still no time table on a return for Omega.
AEW Hopes To Have Kenny Omega Back By February, But He’s Safe To Take All The Time He Needs
Following the AEW debut of Kyle O’Reilly further driving a rift between Adam Cole & The Young Bucks, fans were hoping that it meant Kenny Omega was ready to come back for some epic trios encounters. However, reports from the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter indicate there is still no firm timetable for Omega’s return to the ring.
Previous reports stated that Omega is hoped to be back in AEW’s ring by February, which would have given him three months to recover. At the same time, Tony Khan made it clear to Omega that he needs to take as much time as is needed. AEW’s roster is full of top names, but Omega is still one of their best – and having him return at 100% is top priority.
Reunited Undisputed Era To Take On The Elite By All Out 2022?
However, while we might not see Adam Cole and reDRagon vs. Kenny Omega & The Young Bucks in the first few months of AEW programming, there is no denying how big of a trios match that is. Whenever Omega returns, this could be the top priority in AEW.
In the meantime, we could see Young Bucks turn face and mend their friendship with Hangman Page, or push Brandon Cutler to step up his game to not be dead weight in trios matches. AEW are no strangers to slow burns however, and this storyline could be dragged out for many more months before Cole officially turns on The Young Bucks.
