There are few better ways to kick off NXT than with the NXT Champion himself, Tommaso Ciampa. Last week, he closed the show by taking out Bron Breakker – but that’s because he’s the hunter. Everyone wants a taste of the champion, but last week Breakker would get a direct message from Ciampa with a DDT. Breakker wouldn’t have to interrupt Ciampa, as he has an invitation to enter Ciampa’s ring.

Tommaso Ciampa Knows What Bron Breakker Is Thinking

On cue, Breakker would hit the ring. He’d go for a microphone, but Ciampa stopped him. Ciampa already knows what he’s thinking. At NXT: WarGames, he sent Ciampa through a table and slammed him down to pin him. He earned a title shot with that pinfall, and New Years Evil should have Ciampa vs. Breakker 2 with the gold on the line.

Ciampa agrees he deserves the shot… but hopes Breakker doesn’t drown like the first time. This is his second chance, when some people never get one shot at the NXT Championship. Ciampa wants Breakker to remember what happened when he went into the deep end at Halloween Havoc.

There is no replacement for experience or time, and even the raw power and potential that he has won’t get him over Ciampa. The NXT Championship has a long legacy of strong champions who spent years perfecting their craft before even hitting WWE – and Breakker has not even hit 100 matches yet.

He’s doing great, but he might not be ready for bright lights, gold, and the responsibilities of being champion. But on January 4th, he intends to take the belt home to his dad and family, and be praised for his efforts. However reality will hit, and that reality is the greatest NXT Champion of all time – Tommaso Ciampa. Having heard enough, Ciampa would get lifted up by Breakker, and let down gently before a threat would come from Breakker – all the mind games of Ciampa didn’t work.

Dakota Kai & Raquel Gonzalez Brawl Before The Street Fight Can Even Start

Backstage, we’d be getting ready for the Street Fight between Raquel Gonzalez and Dakota Kai – but Kai wasn’t waiting to get the ring. She’d rush Gonzalez backstage, before getting swung into a loose support beam. Gonzalez would lawn dart Kai into some fencing, before taking some quick pump kicks.

The support would be used to crush Kai, before a powerslam onto a shipping crate. Kai would be running, but was able to throw a trash can into the face of Gonzalez. She finally had the edge before a low superkick, and would set up a table. Referees asked for them to get to the ring, but Gonzalez would drive Kai into a steel door.

Neither lady cares for winning a match, they just want to settle the feud that was started when Kai turned on Gonzalez. They’d make their way through the parking lot – a dangerous place in the history of NXT. Gonzalez would charge Kai before hitting a barricade instead. They’d make their way to the ringside area, and if they hit the ring this could become an actual match.

    Let’s Make This Official!

Gonzalez would pull a ladder out from under the ring, but Kai would make using it very tricky. The top of the announce table was used to smack Kai down, before throwing the steel steps with a deft dodge being all that kept Kai in this match – and alive!

A brawl around the ringside area would see Kai launched to the apron, where she hit a kick before ending up on the shoulders of Gonzalez and using that for a stomp onto the steel steps. A table would be pulled out by Kai, before she’d be shoved down. Gonzalez would set up a chair in the ring, and flapjacked Kai onto it. Table would be set in the corner, and Kai nearly got powerbombed through.

Instead, she’d send Gonzalez to the floor. A trash can over the head was met by a double foot stomp, but Gonzalez recovered and hit a powerbomb onto the steel steps. Kai would be dumped into the ring, and the powerbomb onto the trash can brought this one to a finish.

A fittingly brutal fight, which truly didn’t just feel like a weapons filled match. The brawl from the back and into the ring went a long way, and these two did everything possible to destroy each other – and the fans loved it. Match Rating: 3.75/5 (*** 3/4)

Will Raquel Gonzalez be able to win back the NXT Women’s Championship with Kai in the rear view? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
