Malakai Black has a plan in mind with the Varsity Blondes. First, he attacked Julia Hart with his vile black mist, and she’s been missing from TV since. Griff Garrison stepped up to defend her honor, and was taken out with ease by a knee strike from Black. Tonight, Brian Pillman Jr. has stepped up. A passionate promo and video of an MMA training session show that he is taking this challenge seriously, but will he have a chance to actually defeat the leader of House Of Black?
Malakai Black Just Needed The Opening To Kick The Head Of Pillman Off
Julia Hart was back to join Pillman to the right, now with an eyepatch. Pillman didn’t rush right into Black like Garrison did, instead taking his time. He’d duck the Skull Kick, and nail a dropkick. Springboard moonsault missed Pillman, who sent Black outside for a dropkick. Some mounted blows would follow, and Pillman wanted that Air Pillman – but this was the mistake.
Black nailed a kick to the head, and Pillman was rocked. His arm was bent around the ring post, and Black would follow up in the ring with a hammerlock backdrop attempt. Pillman fought free, but got run right into the ring-post instead. Black would block a kick from Pillman, but was caught with a Pumphandle Suplex. Some chops and forearms landed, before a roll up got a two count.
Black responded with a kick to the head. He would lift Pillman with his foot but couldn’t follow with the Skull Kick. Pillman showed some life, and nailed a Jackhammer for a two count. He’d slip on Air Pillman and flopped into the ring, and the Skull Kick ended it. Pillman made a mistake, and that was all Black needed.
Lucha Bros Finally Meet Jurassic Express
It’s time for the first title defense of the AEW World Tag Team Championships in 2022. The Lucha Bros have been able to carry the belts into 2022, but a recent confrontation with Christian Cage & Jurassic Express have a major challenge set to kick this year off. Jungle Boy & Luchasaurus are dangerous enough, but add in the veteran Christian as an advisor?
We could finally see them rise to the top of the tag team division. That said, Lucha Bros have been better than ever since defeating The Young Bucks at All Out, and it’ll be hard to take them out.
Both teams were ready to go, and Jungle Boy kicked things off with Fenix. They’d battle for wrist control, but seemed evenly matched in power and technique. A hurricanrana got a two count, but Fenix got the receipt with a dropkick to Jungle Boy. Penta got the tag alongside Luchasaurus, and he’d flaunt his size and power on Penta, who still had Zero Fear.
Two overhand chops would land, before one from Luchasaurus dropped Penta. Fenix came in with some superkicks, and Jungle Boy tried to even the odds. Fenix & JB both hit arm drags, Penta hit a superkick to the back of JB’s head, and Luchasaurus hit a German Suplex.
JB would take a kick to the head from Rey Fenix, so hit a perfect PK while walking the top rope like a tightrope. He’s truly insane, and a quick springboard splash landed. JB was tied up in the ropes for a kick to the inner thigh.
Jungle Boy Digs Deep To Kick 2022 Off In A Huge Way
The situation was getting dire for JB, and a superkick from Penta got him in the side of the face. Luchasaurus could just watch as his partner was fighting for the comeback, and a lariat got it. He’d counter a backdrop and roll to the tag, and Luchasaurus was unleashed. He’d hit running splashes and a double lariat – before thinking Chokeslam.
Lucha Bros would hit a double superkick and combo splash, getting a two count. Luchasaurus was able to weather the storm, JB nailed a Canadian Destroyer after coming off the top and ricocheting off the shoulders of Luchasaurus for the impact. Fenix hit one of his own on Luchasaurus, and Penta nailed JB with Made In Japan for a two count.
The lights would go out, and Malakai Black didn’t show again. Lucha Bros did save Brian Pillman Jr earlier in the show, but nothing yet. Penta hit Fear Factor on the apron, before a second in the ring somehow only got a two count on JB. Alex set up a table at ringside, and Christan Cage would run him off.
Penta would kick Luchasaurus in the face twice before he’dt take a headbutt, and Fenix was chokeslammed through the table anyways. Back in the ring, JB would almost flick the killswitch, but Penta countered. Made in Japan was blocked, and JB rolled up Penta to win AEW Tag Team Gold!
