Adam Cole has fought his way to the to the #1 ranked position in AEW, having never been pinned or submitted since joining the company. However, an endless feud with Best Friends keeps threatening that position – and tonight he goes one on one with the always capable Trent Beretta. Beretta has not wrestled a singles match in a long time, but having taken the likes of Kenny Omega to their limits, he can’t be overlooked.
Trent Beretta Has Something To Prove Tonight
Beretta would dodge a fast pump kick as this match started – quickly taking Cole into the corner for some heavy chops. Cole would attempt to gain control of the situation with a front headlock, before being tossed with a belly to belly suplex. Beretta had Cole literally on the ropes, and hit a dropkick to send Cole to the outside. The mass of bodies at ringside in support of Cole, which included reDRagon, Britt Baker & The Young Bucks, would distract Beretta.
He’d get yanked neck first onto the apron. Back into the ring, Cole would nail a neckbreaker in the middle of the ring and Beretta would be rocked. The pump kick would land on this attempt, and Cole would look for Panama Sunrise off the apron. Beretta got the back body drop as a counter, but when he went for a spear – and would crash into the barricade instead.
Back into the ring, Cole nailed another pump kick. After a quick taunt, he’d apply a sleeper hold. Beretta was able to fight back to his feet, and fired off some heavy strikes. German Suplex would come after dodging an enziguri – before the huge swinging DDT in the corner dropped Cole on his head. Cole went to the second rope, but was taken to the top rope for a superplex.
Adam Cole Finds His Chance To Go Low
Beretta would be unable to get the pinfall victory, and would take a backstabber instead. Cole called for a superkick, but Beretta played possum and hit the Half & Half Suplex. Knee Drop Brainbuster would be the receipt, before Cole looked for a Death Valley Driver on the apron. Instead, Cole was hit with a piledriver there, but blocked Strong Zero into a Canadian Destroyer in the ring for a close two count.
Panama Sunrise was blocked into a backdrop driver, before Beretta nailed a massive lariat. Cole shot back with a superkick, but Panama Sunrise was blocked with a Strong Zero. This one would have been over, but Cole got his foot on the bottom rope. A massive brawl at ringside allowed Cole to hit a low blow before The Boom for the hard fought victory.
