AEW has shown little to no issue in pursuing former WWE talent in the quest to bolster their roster with veterans to help their younger members grow, and they were in talks to one of the greats before Edge decided he’d talk with Vince McMahon about going to the WWE.
This has opened a couple of questions that have cropped up from time to time, and one of them is did Edge leave the door open to go there once his WWE run is over?
On the surface it looks doubtful given his age and how good the WWE has been to him during his career and it’s understandable that he’d be loyal to them and wouldn’t want to do anything to hurt the company.
With that being said, competition is good for a company as it forces them to be more creative and focus on putting out a top level product.
There’s another aspect of Edge’s legacy and how the WWE has treated others that chose to do business with AEW by forcibly severing ties with Diamond Dallas Page and Vicki Guerrero.
While those bridges may have been repaired since then, it’s been reported that Chris Jericho still has a good relationship with Vince McMahon so if Edge leaves on good terms we don’t think there’ll be much of a problem.
More than a legacy
One reason Edge could choose to go to AEW is to reunite with Christian.
When they embraced each other at the Royal Rumble, many fans hoped it signaled a reunion of the pair. It struck a super nostalgia itch that no one realized it was actually goodbye to them being in a WWE ring together.
Christian signing with AEW ended that hope and broke many fans’ hearts, but there’s always a chance they’ll come together again and it’s just a question of where that’ll happen.
For many, their reunion can only be in the WWE since it’s where it can be argued that’s their names were made there.
But for many in general, just seeing them in the ring again as a tag team is enough and it doesn’t matter where they go to do that.
This could end up being an interesting angle going forward as Edge and Christian’s contracts get closer to running out and it’ll give fans plenty of hope to see them together once more.
