Recently, WWE gave up on Finn Balor. Despite being one of the best wrestlers, having a great connection with fans, and showing no signs of slowing down – he is no longer considered to be a top star in WWE. He will be working to boost up rising talents, with the latest being Austin Theory. If Balor had his way on his way back out of NXT however – things might have gone differently, as he wanted to go to NXT UK.
Finn Balor Requested To Go To NXT UK, Ended Up On Smackdown Live
While speaking on the “My Love Letter To Wrestling” podcast hosted by NXT UK’s Mark Andrews, Finn Balor would explain how he wanted to go to NXT UK.
“Believe it or not, I actually pitched to go to NXT U.K. when they asked me to go to Smackdown because I knew my time at NXT was coming to an end. It had been two years and I had worked with everyone.
There was not really much more I could do there I felt. The idea came to go to Smackdown, and I counterpitched with NXT U.K. They said maybe in a couple years but we need you on Smackdown right now.”
Balor wanted to not only have fresh matches with top names – but be closer to his family and friends.
“For me, the move to NXT U.K. would have been the move. There’s so many great guys there. Obviously, it’s closer to home. I’ve been stuck in America for the last two years with COVID heightened the feeling of isolation in WWE in that bubble away from my friends and family.
There were multiple reasons why I wanted to go to NXT U.K. but the main one was because of guys like Noam, A-Kid, all these matches I haven’t really had the chance to put together. That was like a fresh challenge.”
Balor Would Have Been A Big Fish In A Small Pond
When Balor showed up on Smackdown, it was quickly clear that he was brought in to lose to Roman Reigns. After being punked out by John Cena, he’d get his chance – and lost to Reigns in hilarious fashion. The Demon persona was defeated by a broken top rope and a spear, and Balor was doomed from that point onward.
We can only hope that Balor gets his chance to go to NXT UK in due time, where he will be a big fish in a small pond. WWE has kept NXT running without changes, still bringing hard hitting action – making it more similar to NXT Black & Gold. Do you think Finn Balor will finish his WWE career in NXT UK?
