Olympic swimmer Ryan Lochte has opened up about his regrets, which had ultimately gone on to cloud his star-studded career.

It is no secret that Ryan is one of the greatest swimmers to have ever graced the sport. Ryan Lochte does have the acclaim of being able to say that he holds two world record times for a swim race.
But in and amongst that is a career that has sadly been tarnished. In 2016, Ryan got himself involved in a scandal that he would rather forget. During the Olympics in Rio, Brazil, it turned out that he had lied about being robbed at gunpoint.
He would go on to give a public admission in which he stated that he had “overexaggerated that story.”
As a consequence of his actions, he lost a whole variety of sponsorship deals as well as the fact that he was not allowed to compete, given that he was handed a 10-month suspension. And looking back, he wished he could have changed these things.
In an interview on the Thirty Minute Mentors podcast, he said: “Those were the toughest moments of my life. I went from hero to zero in a blink of an eye.
“And just like that, no matter what I’ve accomplished in the pool or out, it went all to waste in a matter of minutes. But I mean, I did it to myself. I have no one else to blame but me.”
But through it all, he has managed to come out the other side. He admitted that such a scandal made him focus on his swimming even further.
In addition, he also realised that he ended up damaging his personal relationships given that the scrutiny impacted his wife and two children. In this way, he is better prepared to deal with anything that may come across in his life.
Ryan Lochte’s following comments confirmed as much: “So, I started working on myself, I met my wife, we have two beautiful kids. Everything that happens in life, you have to just learn from it—the goods, the bads.”
