One of the most baffling WWE releases in recent memory just came a few short days ago. After 21 years with the company, WWE released William Regal. Long retired from the ring, Regal had been a crucial part of their NXT brand for years – both on screen as perhaps the greatest General Manager figure in wrestling history, and behind the scenes in the WWE PC as a trainer and talent scout. However, as WWE moves forward with the NXT 2.0 rebranding, William Regal was released. Despite this, he doesn’t have anything bad to say about WWE.
William Regal Comments On His WWE Release On Twitter
Taking to Twitter to ensure all of his fans got to see his response to the WWE release, Regal had the following to say.
“Thank you to WWE for a wonderful 21 year run. You gave a lad who was happy and in wonderland wrestling on a carnival have a charmed life for 21 years. No complaints and please no one waste time replying as I won’t have a bad work said against the company. I will add that WWE saved my life in 1999 when they didn’t need to, kept my family fed and took me all around the world. You have my gratitude forever. You allowed me to live a charmed life.”
No one expected Regal to go scorched earth on WWE after his release, as while it does suck to see him go – he’s had a great career there and his time to slow down was always coming.
WWE Will Likely Induct Him Into The Hall of Fame Soon
When it comes to people who belong in the WWE Hall of Fame, it’s baffling that William Regal isn’t already there. While he never claimed the WWE Championship during his time with the company, he has built the likes of Seth Rollins & Kevin Owens into main event players through his influence in WWE.
In the ring, he’s a former Tag Team Champion, King of the Ring winner, and former Intercontinental Champion. All in all, he’s had an incredibly productive 21 years in WWE, and always made his opponents look incredible in the ring.
