A TikTok video went viral after a woman had gotten into an altercation with a shop employee after she refused to wear a mask.

In the video here, we can see that the woman is having a back-and-forth with the store employee who is near the door. He is refusing to let her in and buy some things, despite the fact that this store has no other customers.
In addition, the woman is even attempting to try to bargain with him by suggesting that she is willing to come at the end of the day or have a time reserved where she would be the only person in the shop for the sake of convenience.
In the video, she is heard saying the following: “I don’t wear a mask because I can’t. I’ll have a panic attack. I will freak out. I’ll have an anxiety attack.”
The prior comments would indicate that the woman had a medical exemption that should have been recognised. And yet, in the absence of any legitimate paperwork being shown which is not always easy to come by, the worker refused to allow her inside.
Realising that this was not going anywhere, she decided to take further action. Rather than filing a complaint, she decided to do something much more serious. She threatened to call the police on the grounds that her rights were being violated.
The video instantly went viral with over 300,000 views and counting. The response on social media was divisive.
A proportion of people felt that the store worker could have been more pragmatic by simply letting her in, especially since there were no other customers in the store.
However, others felt that the woman should have respected the store worker’s rights given that he was ultimately just doing his job.
One person wrote: “She’s treating 911 like a customer service line for every store that doesn’t allow her to shop without a mask.”
With society becoming increasingly divided, stories like this only go on to increase the already existing disconnect between different factions and their views on the pandemic. So there you have it.
