Tonight, that on WRLD on GCW Jonathan Gresham was to defend the ROH World Championship. His planned opponent was Blake Christian. However, Gresham was out of the running for tonight – and replaced by Lio Rush. Christian will still get a title shot down the line, and tonight, he gets to tear it up with an old friend.
They’ve had some of the best matches in GCW together – and now they’ll add another match to their resume. Rush was worried to have no-showed this show after missing the ladder match – but is here to steal the show in a different match.
Lio Rush & Blake Christian Give Their All In Another Classic Encounter
Lio Rush would offer a handshake, and Christian used this to start fast with an armdrag. They’d be mirror images of each other, equal in size and speed. Rush was sent to the outside, and he’d take his time getting into the ring. However, once he was into the ring – he’d send Christian out and hit a dive to the outside. Christian shot back just as fast, hitting a twisting gutbuster in the ring for a two count.
Some heavy chops in the corner would catch Rush, before catching him into a crucifix style submission. Rush tried to make a comeback, nailing a big spear for a two count. A kick to the head rocked Christian, before a falcon arrow for a two count. Christian was able to come back and set up a ripcord Spanish Fly. Rush held on but failed to hit Rush Hour, and took a dropkick to the head.
A ripcord Spanish Fly and 450 Splash were somehow not enough to keep Rush down, who hit a poisonrana and twisted DDT. Going up top, Rush would hit Final Hour, but took too long making the cover. Rush would get caught with a Fosbury Flop into Tombstone Piledriver on the floor. A 450 Double Stomp in the ring would finally close this one out – with Christian claiming the win.
Matt Cardona Embodies Fellow ECW Legend, The Sandman – Insults Mick Foley
When in the GCW ring, Matt Cardona is the self proclaimed Deathmatch King. He’s a former GCW Champion, and will once again look to bring some sports entertainment to the GCW Universe. Tonight, he will take on a favourite of GCW fans with Joey Janela – who is the only man willing to step up to someone like Cardona, and hopefully will teach him a lesson of what GCW is really about.
Matt Cardona would come out to Enter Sandman, emulating another ECW legend in The Sandman. He’d not emerge from the crowd, but Chelsea Green did have a kendo stick and Cardona had a beer – and a flannel vest that said “Fuck Mick Foley” on the back. A sign in the crowd said ‘If Cardona wins, we riot’ which might not be a lie.
He’d have a microphone in hand, and addressed the GCW Universe – and said they can’t boo him, since his parents are here. Everyone is here because Matt Cardona, because he put GCW on the map. Not Nick Gage, not Jon Moxley, not Effy, and sure as hell not Joey Janela. However, ‘The Bad Boy’ Joey Janela got a hero’s welcome from the GCW crowd.
Matt Cardona Brawls It Out With Joey Janela
Cardona would kick the match off by hitting the Rough Ryder, but only got a two count. Some mounted punches would follow, before Cardona set up a door in the corner. Janela would get to use it however, slamming Cardona through with a Death Valley Driver. Cardona would roll out to the floor, before looking for a big dive.
Janela would be taken down instead, and Cardona hit a dive to the floor before kissing Green. Back in the ring, Cardona would be dropped with a lariat, before Janela would look for a chair on the outside. Janela hit the midsection and back with the chair, before setting Cardona up on it but missing the diving cannonball.
Cardona threw his shirt into the ring, but they ripped it up and threw it back. Janela would take some chair shots to the ribs, before Green stopped him and kicked him low! There was tension before this match that Janela was with Green, but she’d crotch him on the top rope and Cardona revealed he was wearing a cup.
A broski boot with a steel chair in the corner would get a two count for Cardona. Janela would manage a superplex, before some lariats and a German Suplex. Smart Mark Sterling would show up and scold Janela for touching the Internet Championship.
Vince McMahons Music Plays And Chaos Breaks
He’d welcome some Shut The Fuck Up chants, but he had a guest. Sterling claimed Vince McMahon was coming, and someone in a cheap Vince McMahon mask would show up to the music of Vince – and it’s Virgil! He just wanders off however.
In the ring, Cardona got a two count off a roll up, before Cardona accidentally nailed Sterling with the Internet Championship. Janela hit a Death Valley Driver onto the apron, and pulled Hornswoggle out from under the ring. He’d be stopped by Sam Stackhouse, who was about the size of fifteen Swoggles – but missed the moonsault. Marko Stunt would appear and throw a chair at Swoggle.
We’d finally get back to Cardona & Janela, with some more weapons entering the ring. Swoggle was set up on a door and some chairs, and did the same to Cardona on the outside. They’d both hit dives through, before Green hit Stunt with a Canadian Destroyer. Janela went after Green, and took a chair to the back and a driver onto a chair for a two count.
A door was set up in the corner once again, before Janela nailed a heavy chairshot to the head of Cardona. Green would use the kendo stick, but Janela spiked her with a piledriver. Someone in a black coat and a helmet would spear Janela through a table and it was Brian Meyers!
Finally, a Rough Ryder through the table – and this was over. Fans pelted the ring with beer cups, before the X-Pacs theme hit and Sean Waltman cleared the ring with X-Factors and attempts at Bronco Busters!
