Chris Jericho was the first major name signed on for All Elite Wrestling – and he’s worked with just about every top star in the company.
From Ricky Starks to Eddie Kingston to Orange Cassidy – Jericho has worked with them all. However, when he first met Cassidy – he would have a very different opinion, until he truly saw what Cassidy is capable of – and how much easy fan support he would find.
Chris Jericho Had The Wrong Idea About Orange Cassidy
While speaking with Josh Martinez on Superstar Crossover, Chris Jericho would talk about Orange Cassidy – and how his opinion changed.
“A guy like orange Cassidy, for example, when I first came to AEW, I was like, ‘This guy sucks. This whole thing is stupid. It’s mocking the business. Then I realized, ‘Get your head out of your ass,’ he’s super popular. Why? Let me analyze this for a bit. Then I realized that he’s doing something completely different; no one has ever done it before, and it’s really cool. Then I started realizing you can dress up like him, and he’s really good. Then I started thinking, ‘Well, let’s maybe do something together.’ We worked a 14-week program in the middle of the pandemic in front of nobody. That was amazing. The only thing that sucked was there were no fans to watch it. That’s kind of something where you look at somebody and get a little kernel of what they’re doing great, and then you can expand upon that.”
No one is doubting Cassidy after his incredible run as AEW International Champion. He would become the most dominant champion in company history, managing 32 televised title defenses in 326 days. He would end up only being stopped by three time AEW World Champion Jon Moxley.
It’s likely that Cassidy & Jericho will eventually work together again – with that being one of the bigger pandemic era feuds that has not been revisited by AEW. Cassidy won that original feud, with it ending with the Mimosa Mayhem match.
