Last night was one of the best episodes of AEW Dynamite in recent memory. Strong matches and memorable moments came throughout the two hours of professional wrestling, opening with their greatest villain in MJF praising a tainted victory over the beloved CM Punk – and ending with the dominant champion Hangman Page winning a bloody brawl to remain champion despite the efforts of Lance Archer. In the middle was a massive debut, with Keith Lee finally joining AEW. However, perhaps the most important part of this show is that AEW had over one million viewers for the episode.
AEW Draws In Over One Million Viewers For Dynamite
The ratings and viewership of wrestling shows is generally hot news, but AEW has been stagnant lately in this category. Lingering around 900k viewers, AEW has been doing very well – often topping the charts for Wednesday night programming. However, for the first time since September 2021 – they’ve cracked that magic number of one million viewers.
Brandon Thurston of Wrestlenomics would report that AEW Dynamite drew 1,129,000 viewers on February 9.This is up from 954,000 viewers last week, which featured CM Punk wrestling MJF in his hometown of Chicago. When it comes to the key 18 to 49 demographic of viewers, around 541,000 viewers were in this category – also up from last week.
Bringing In Lots Of Eyes During A Strong Show Could Mean Increased PPV Buys
This all means that AEW not only ran a very strong two hours of TV during the Olympics, but they had a lot of eyes on their product during this big show. It comes at the perfect time, as AEW have started to build towards their next PPV event – meaning getting viewers on board now could lead to increased PPV buys.
If AEW can keep this going and stay above one million viewers, it will only help them grow. WWE’s recent failings have people looking for an alternative, and AEW is providing that every single week. While neither program is perfect, it’s clear that AEW is on the rise – no matter what come fans seem to think.
