Lamar Odom has been looking back at his friendship with the late Kobe Bryant in an episode of ‘Celebrity Big Brother.’
Lamar Odom Recalls His Friendship With The Great Kobe Bryant-‘I Looked Up To Him’
Kobe, for his part, had tragically died in 2020 as a result of a helicopter crash in Calabasas, California. Things had been exacerbated by the fact that his daughter Gianna had also died.
And given that Lamar and Kobe were teammates, it is understandable that he has been left with a lot of emotions about his death.
In an episode of the show, Lamar said: “I haven’t really thought about how much I looked up to him but now that he’s not here, I really realize it.
“That day [when I learned about his death], it just sticks in my memory forever.” One of the reasons why Lamar admired him so much was the fact that Kobe set very high standards for himself.
In this way, anybody that was connected or surrounded with him, naturally fed off that energy as they wanted to be great just like him. Now that he is no longer here, Lamar understood why Kobe was such a great athlete and person.
He added: “[He was] outspoken. He gonna speak his mind. He’s always been about business…You would see it in his face. He would play injured, sick, he never missed no games.”
Kobe has been sorely missed, but his legacy has taught Lamar that there are no limits to what is possible. After all, Lamar has managed to bounce back from a near fatal overdose he had in 2016 by managing to rebuild his life somewhat.
And after having spoken about his demons to the public, including his regret at the way he behaved which led to his split from Khloe Kardashian, he has become more relatable to the public.
His following comments confirmed as much: “When he’s your teammate and becomes your brother, you feed off that. You want to try and reach that or at least be great.”
If Lamar can achieve half as much as what Kobe had managed to do, then he will have left his mark on the world. So there you have it folks.
