The wrestling news of the day has revolved around Cody Rhodes leaving AEW and possibly going back to WWE.
It’s an interesting change of scenery as he’s spent the last three years as an Executive Vice President with AEW and he reportedly had two years left on his contract if Tony Kahn exercised it and he chose not to.
Reports are that Cody and AEW couldn’t come to an agreement on renegotiating the contract so Tony let him go.
How much truth there is to that is something we’ll have to wait and see, but it does appear that Cody is free and clear and could literally appear backstage at Elimination Chamber this weekend.
I can confirm that Cody's camp has been in contact with WWE officials.

Win for WWE
If Cody does go to the WWE, it’s a win for them in the PR department As Andrew Zarian pointed out on Josh Nason’s Punch-Out, Mat Men, where he’s a co-host, that if they sign him, the WWE promotional machine can kick it into high gear.
They can go on about the founder of AEW left there to return to the WWE, so how good can their product be and so on
At the end of the day, it may only affect the loyalists to the companies as well as Cody’s fans, but the WWE won’t waste any time in using it to their advantage.
It’d be the WWE’s opportunity to fire a huge volley toward AEW by using Cody in a type of penance for everything Cody’s said about the WWE since he left, including destroying a copy of Triple H’s throne.
It’s not the first time this happened and it won’t be the last, and it won’t be the move that cripples AEW or boosts WWE into the stratosphere.
The golden throne
Cody’s capable of taking on more than just a wrestling role, and he could plug into the office and possibly even step into running one or more of their shows at some point.
As they talked about in the podcast linked above, he could even slip into the line to eventually replace Vince McMahon when he decides to hand the company over.
For years, everyone thought Triple H would take over, but after Vince wiped away Hunter’s fingerprints on NXT, it goes back to reports that Stephanie was Vince’s actual choice.
This opens a lot of doors for possibilities for Cody and the WWE, but they’ve got to agree on a contract and he needs to sign first.
When or if Cody signs, expect the WWE to become more interesting.
