Things are heating up in the Cody Rhodes sweepstakes as more news is coming out about his future with the WWE.
Cody caused a stir when he walked away from AEW. Having a founding member of the company leave after three years is an interesting event and it may show there was more going on than Cody not being happy money-wise.
So, social media wasted no time in coming up with rumors about his possible destinations and as more news has come out it looks like his new home will be the WWE if both sides can agree on the terms and conditions.
PR Paradise
If this happens, it’ll be a huge win for Vince McMahon when he badly needs one.
While signing Cody won’t be a groundbreaking event like WCW signing Hulk Hogan or Kevin Nash and Scott Hall, the WWE will proclaim the opposite and it’s all fodder AEW will be handing them.
The WWE will rely of everyone knowing Cody is a former AEW Executive Vice President and co-founder of the company. They’ll proclaim far and wide that if he left AEW it can’t be all that great and so on.
Beyond the mudslinging, there’s also the fact that Cody was a main eventer and former two time TNT Champion. The fact he can still perform in the ring and can work backstage as a potential producer.
Big plans
WWE’s plans involving Cody were reported by Wade Keller of PWTorch. Keller laid it all out and it’s what’s been the prevalent feeling among fans online.

“Cody and WWE haven’t confirmed it but Cody is going to WWE and he’s going to get a big push. Vince McMahon is going to treat this as a big deal. Everybody I talked to thinks Vince loves the idea of acquiring a co-founder and EVP and, you know, main event wrestler. He just held their secondary singles title not that long ago, and having him show up on WWE TV is something that Vince is very interested in taking advantage of and making money on it. It could even be a situation where Cody is in a major match at WrestleMania.”
This may seem like a major blow to AEW, but they’re chugging along and exciting fans as much as WWE is turning them off. But this could be a sign Vince is finally going to listen to fans and change things up some.
We don’t expect any big changes, but we have a feeling there’s going to be a role reversal. AEW was like WCW for years, but not the WWE will morph into WCW by looking for headlines and attention to revitalize them.
This will be pretty interesting going forward and we’re curious what the WWE’s plans are exactly. Of course, if no deal is reached this is all moot.
