It’s been quite some time since WWE fans have seen Kurt Angle in a WWE ring. The Hall of Famer was retired when he lost to Baron Corbin at Wrestlemania 35. Angle would move into a backstage producer role, showing up at sparse moments – with his final appearance being during the Fight Pit match between Matt Riddle & Timothy Thatcher. However, we almost saw Kurt Angle return once again, as he was on hand for the 2022 Royal Rumble.
Kurt Angle Is Not Signed To WWE, Had Three Week Program Scrapped
While speaking on his Kurt Angle show podcast, Angle would say he was around for the 2022 Royal Rumble. WWE had pitched for a quick on-screen role for Angle, which would have been started at the event. However, Angle is not signed to WWE – as he would make clear while speaking about the scrapped plans.
“‘We went to the Rumble and I also did some documentary interviews a day before [and] a photo op with the fans. But I want to make it clear, I’m not signed with the WWE. They weren’t gonna sign me anyway. It was gonna be a three week programme. It got cancelled, but you know my obligation is to the show — the Kurt Angle Show – and that’s it.”
What Could The Plans Have Been?
While neither Angle or WWE have revealed details on what these scrapped plans included, fans have assumed it had something to do with Alpha Academy and RK-Bro. There has often been comparisons to Kurt Angle made with Chad Gable, so having Angle involved with this angle would add a bit of fun.
Plans like this will come and go in WWE. Having a legend like Kurt Angle show up for even a few weeks would have been a great bit of excitement for WWE fans. Right now, he’s remaining a free agent, not even signing a legends deal with WWE. AEW have offered him a contract for some matches, but Angle is turning down all deals.
