2022 is supposed to be a historical year for the British royal family due to the platinum jubilee anniversary celebration of Queen Elizabeth. However, the controversies surrounding some senior members of the royal family is already overshadowing an eventful year.

The royal family is currently the subject of negative media attention arising from the sexual lawsuit between Prince Andrew and one Virginia Giuffre who accused the Duke of York of sexually harassing her while she was still a minor.

Although Prince Andrew was set to stand trial for the charges after a US Judge denied his bid to dismiss the case, the embattled royal has questionably settled the lawsuit after paying a sum of £12m to Virginia Giuffre.
Prince Andrew’s move has not gone down well with many royal fans who are currently requesting the Queen to strip him of his Dukedom. Moreover, the Queen herself is also under the spotlight of royal experts and fans due to widespread rumours that she funded part of Prince Andrew’s settlement money.
In the heat of Prince Andrew’s legal conundrum, the royal family is now in for more public storm in the first few months of the year as the Metropolitan Police is set to investigate claims made in September last year that Prince Charles’s charity offered honours and official British citizenship to assist a Saudi.
According to the allegations, former Chief Executive of Prince Charles’ Charity, Michael Fawcett received offers to help nominate Mahfouz Marei Mubarak bin Mahfouz, a Saudi Businessman for an honourary CBE title.
Nevertheless, Prince Charles has moved to maintain that he is not aware of any illegality through a statement that read “The Prince of Wales had no knowledge of the alleged offer of honours or British citizenship on the basis of donation to his charities.”
On the contrary, Queen Elizabeth has a lot of work to do to enhance the dwindling image of the royal family ahead of her platinum celebrations in June. Notwithstanding, with the manner she handled past royal controversies, one can count her to sail through the current storm.
