Tennis superstar Novak Djokovic has spoken out in the aftermath of his deportation from Australia after he was not allowed to compete in the Australian Open on the grounds that he was unvaccinated for Covid.

By not having the chance to participate at the tournament, Novak was not given the opportunity to defend his title.
In the process of not doing so, Rafael Nadal won the tournament and became the most successful men’s tennis player with the most number of Grand Slam trophies.
Although that may have been the case, the very fact of the matter is that Novak is not willing to compromise on what he believes in.
Thus, if it means that he is not able to play at a tennis tournament in the future because he remains unvaccinated, then so be it.
In an interview with the BBC, he said: “[It is a] price that I am willing to pay. I understand the consequences of my decision.
“I understand that not being vaccinated today, you know, I am unable to travel to most of the tournaments at the moment.” But rather than being motivated by anti-vaxxer sentiments, for Novak, it was something much more simpler than that.
He expanded on how he viewed freedom of choice as a significant part of his lifestyle, which trumps any potential tournament that he could win.
And given that he is an elite athlete, who always prides himself on his health and fitness, he does not want to compromise on something by putting it in his body when he is not necessarily fully behind it.
He added: “I am trying to be in tune with my body as much as I possibly can. Based on all the information that I got, I decided not to take the vaccine, as of today.”
With Novak refusing to budge on his position, there is a realistic possibility that we may never see the superstar in a major tournament again, unless the rules change.
