Since October 2021, WWE has been working to change the landscape of their developmental brand – NXT. The Black & Gold era is over, and 2.0 is here to stay. However, one part of the Black & Gold era of NXT remains, and that is 205 Live. No longer a show for the now dead Cruiserweight division, it has instead resembled ‘AEW Dark’ in recent months, giving some talent extra ring time. However, with WWE filing a trademark for “NXT – Level Up”, 205 Live might finally be getting its own rebranding.
NXT Level Up Is A Trademark For A New WWE Show
This trademark was filed on February 9 with the United States Patent and Trademark Office. The filing description is as follows.
“Mark For: NXT: LEVEL UP trademark registration is intended to cover the categories of a show about professional wrestling; the production and exhibition of professional wrestling events rendered live and through broadcast media including television and distributed via various platforms across multiple forms of transmission media; providing wrestling news and information through broadcast media including television and distributed via various platforms across multiple forms of transmission media; providing information in the fields of sports through broadcast media including television and distributed via various platforms across multiple forms of transmission media; providing a website in the field of sports information.”
What Will This New Show Be?
This is just a long-winded way of saying that NXT – Level Up is a trademark for a new professional wrestling show. The only question left to answer is what will this show be. A rebranding of 205 Live would make sense, but it could also point towards a show based around the WWE Performance Center – as we watch new recruits ‘Level Up’ during their training process. We have previously seen this idea explored in ‘WWE Breaking Ground’. That series was a hit, but never got a second season.
Whatever this is, the name feels like something that will be developmentally skewed. It’s unlikely WWE would completely rebrand NXT so soon, meaning it’s going to be a supplemental show of some sort. 205 Live has been rumoured for a rebrand for ages. Right now, 205 Live barely gets promoted by WWE – and it’s clear changes are needed. There is also the long rumoured ‘NXT Evolve’ show that fans have been waiting for. However that more points to being cancelled in 2022.
