Actress Christy Carlson Romano opened up on how the pandemic made her sobriety journey very difficult.
Actress Christy Carlson Romano Opens Up On Staying Sober During The Pandemic-‘I Understand Why A Lot Of People Probably Relapsed’
It is no secret that Christy has struggled with her alcohol levels in the past. Her problems have been well-documented with issues relating to alcohol, depression and self-harm which overtook her during her twenties.
While she did not have any setbacks during the pandemic, she did admit that it was understandable why many people may have done so.
In an interview with People magazine, she said: “I think it sucks that COVID happened and that a lot of people turned to booze, but it makes perfect sense.
“I understand why a lot of people probably relapsed during COVID. I did not.” The primary reason why Christy did not spiral out of control was by virtue of the fact that she did have a lot to lose.
She is the mother of two children (Isabella, and Sophia) that she shares with her husband, Brendan Rooney. And given that her children are very young, the last thing that she wanted to see was a relapse which could have affected her family.
And yet, Christy revealed that she still felt moments of darkness despite being around her family. She added: “You can still feel very isolated even if you have a lot of people around you.
“Because it’s your responsibility as a parent to love your children and to keep them kids as long as possible. I really believe that.”
In order to keep herself sane, Christy resorted to a variety of methods that were unorthodox to say the least. But by committing to doing these things, it had the impact of keeping her strong during these tough times.
And by the looks of it, she had a lot of repressed emotions that she wanted to release. Her following comments confirmed as much: “I literally drove down the freeway, and I screamed.
“I literally did a primal scream. It was scream therapy at its finest.” It took Christy a lot of courage to open up about her demons, and hopefully, she stays on the straight and narrow.
