Professional wrestling is strewn with broken promises for one reason or another, and one of the latest to fall into that trap is Impact Wrestling’s Jonah, formerly Bronson Reed in WWE NXT.
Since his release from the WWE, Jonah’s been making a name for himself on the Indie circuit as a dominant heel.
Like most others that left the WWE, he’s starting to show the promise many fans of NXT were looking forward to as they watched him blossom during his time there.
While there’s plenty of potential for him to tap into yet, he’s moving in the right direction and he gives us some fun matches.
But the story could’ve been far different had the WWE not released him in their re-imagining of NXT into NXT 2.0.

Promised the gold
Like many performers, Jonah was reportedly promised to be made champion and be the top guy, but like for many, things didn’t go as planned.
Jonah appeared on Sami Callihan’s Callihan Uncensored on youtube.com where he talked about his wrestling career in the WWE, Impact Wrestling, and NJPW.
On the topic of the WWE and what was planned for him, he said:
“Very top, world champion. That’s where I’ve always wanted to be and that’s where I still have my goals set. I set goals as they go and build my way up and as for that company that shall not be named, I was destined to become the top guy in the black and gold brand. That’s what was supposed to happen. That’s what was promised. But as we all know, promises don’t get kept a lot in professional wrestling. So now it’s all on my own shoulders and I have to make sure I live up to that hype.”
While Jonah’s time in the WWE came to a premature end, he’s proven that he didn’t get the title for not connecting with fans or not drawing us in as he’s done that elsewhere.
While he was caught up in the budget cuts in the WWE, it seems releasing him was a mistake they could regret as they’re pushing larger wrestlers now and he would’ve been a great monster heel for the company.
Instead, he’s giving fans elsewhere the joy of watching him continue to grow and who knows? He may go back to the WWE at some point.
There’s no reason to not expect that to happen if he wants to as the WWE has shown they’ll bring back anyone if they can make money, so this could be another case of never say never.
Until then, we’re going to continue enjoying his matches wherever he goes.
