In line with Queen Elizabeth’s Platinum Jubilee Celebration, Prince William and his wife, Kate Middleton have been on a Royal tour in different parts of the Caribbean, it was confirmed by the Buckingham Palace that the couple would be visiting Belize, Jamaica and the Bahamas from the 19th till the 26th of March.
Jamaica Sees “No Reason To Celebrate 70 Years” Of The Queen’s Reign
The Royal Tour was planned by Queen Elizabeth as a way to strengthen the bond between the countries in Commonwealth, but it looks like Leaders of some of these countries scheduled for visit do not agree with the Queen. First it was Belize, where there was a protest upon the Prince’s arrival, and now Jamaica.
Jamaica Demands An Apology From The Queen, Makes Plans To Become A Republic
Before the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge arrived in Jamaica on Tuesday, March 22, a letter was sent to them. The letter was allegedly written by leaders of Jamaica stating that the Royal family owed the Jamaicans an apology and not a celebration.
“We see no reason to celebrate 70 years of the ascension of your grandmother to the British throne because her leadership, and that of her predecessors, have perpetuated the greatest human rights tragedy in the history of humankind.” The letter continued, explaining that in the Queen’s 70 years on the throne she had done “nothing to redress or atone for the suffering of ancestors that took place during her reign.”
The letter which was shared online by a Jamaican human rights advocacy group—The advocates network—also stated that rather than celebrate the Queen’s Golden Jubilee, Jamaica would celebrate “60 years of freedom from the British Colonial Domination.”
In addition, sources in the Jamaican Parliament have revealed that the Government in Jamaica has begun processes to make Jamaica a Republic, just as Barbados did.
Their goal is to ensure that all processes are completed by August 6, which is Jamaica’s 60th independence anniversary. “It’s a long and arduous process, but having already put the wheels in motion, it will be full steam ahead in the coming weeks and months.” An insider politician said to BAZAAR concerning this plan.
