Meghan Markle showed Prince Charles that she had no qualms about entering into the Royal family during the biggest day of her life.
Meghan Markle Turned Down Prince Charles’ Request To Walk Her Down The Aisle-‘This Was No Blushing Bride, But A Confident, Independent Woman’
That is according to Royal author Robert Hardman. This revelation came in light of Meghan’s wedding day, in which Charles had apparently offered to walk Meghan down the aisle.
Given that her father Thomas Markle was absent from the wedding, there was a feeling that she may have accepted his gesture.
But rather than doing so, she showed herself to a woman with an independent mind. According to Robert, Meghan is alleged to have said the following: “Can we meet halfway?”
This statement is significant for the following reasons. First of all, Meghan did not want anything else to cloud the happiness on her wedding day. And by walking with Charles, it could have easily been interpreted as a stab in the back at her own father.
Secondly, it could also imply that she was not very close with Charles from the outset. After all, if they were on good terms, there is no reason for her to have rejected the request.
And yet, for Robert, it was something much more than that. He stated: “[It] was an indicator that this was no blushing bride, but a confident, independent woman determined to make a grand entrance on her own”
In reality, however, Meghan’s choice to walk without Charles has not been the primary reason why she has received criticism. Nevertheless, Meghan’s approach in doing this only created more talking points.
This was because there was a greater focus on the absence of Meghan’s family rather than the fact that the Royal family were not being portrayed in the best possible light at that time.
Tom continued: “The dynamics of her family certainly eclipsed the usual criticisms about the Royal Family being dysfunctional.”
As long as Meghan Markle is happy now, then that is the most important thing. She did make a lot of sacrifices by moving overseas with Prince Harry and entered into the Royal family knowing that she was not the most popular member.
