Fans will not get to see Hiroshi Tanahashi take on Jeff Cobb in the quarter finals of the New Japan Cup – but we will see them clash tonight in tag team action. Tanahashi brings Tomoaki Honma to this fight, while Aaron Henare joins his United Empire partner. Tanahashi & Honma are as capable as a duo gets, but lack the tag team chemistry of Cobb & Henare.
Aaron Henare Shows Hiroshi Tanahashi How Much He’s Improved
Tanahashi would start action off with Henare, a man he spent two World Tag Leagues with as tag team partner. Henare would get the wrist lock and absorb some forearm shots from Tanahashi. Tanahashi would be cornered, and come out with a crossbody block. Honma got the tag and dropped the elbow on Henare.
Cobb would hit a knee to the back to stop the Kokeshi headbutt, before nailing some clubbing blows to beat him to the mat. He’d ride Honma like a surfboard before the delayed vertical suplex was blocked. Honma was sent into the corner, but Tanahashi would be able to get the tag.
Cobb took a basement dropkick and dragon screw, before blocking the Slingblade and almost getting Spincycle. A crossbody in the corner was blocked into a powerslam, before Cobb hit the standing moonsault for a two count. Tanahashi fired off a slingblade, before tagging Honma back into the match.
Honma chopped the throat of Henare before the running bulldog. Kokeshi would be dodged, but Cobb & Henare took a complete shot & DDT – before Honma & Tanahashi hit Kokeshi’s. Honma hit a body slam and set up the top rope Kokeshi, only to be hit with a superplex and Streets Of Rage for the finish.
Los Ingobernables De Japon Get Taken Down
Hiromu Takahashi has a chance to reach the quarter finals of the New Japan Cup, but it means defeating former Los Ingobernables De Japon member EVIl. Ahead of their coming match, L.I.J will unite to take on House of Torture – which always means a brutal brawl on all fronts. Tanga Loa would join English commentary for this match, getting a close look at House of Torture.
House of Torture would attack before the bell, with EVIL focusing his attentention on Hiromu. In the ring, SHO had Shingo Takagi, and needed help from Togo to try and control The Dragon. They’d fall one by one, before Yujiro blocked a suplex by biting the hand of Shingo. Naito got the tag before SHO found himself being launched with an armdrag and hit with a dropkick to the neck. Sweep kick into the dropkick landed in the corner, before Hiromu got the tag.
Togo would block the sunset flip by grabbing the hair and tossing him across the ring. Yujiro got the tag before the corner was exposed and Hiromu met steel. Naito tried to make the save, before EVIL got a two count. BUSHI & SHO got tags, before the Pendulum Kick would land. A dive to the outside drove SHO into the barricade.
SHO would block the codebreaker in the ring, before Togo & Yujiro would get sent with a double hurricanrana. BUSHI would take a boot to the face, as SHO distracted the referee with the wrench. Yujiro used his cane to drop BUSHI before hitting Big Juice for the win.
