Anthony Smith isn’t exactly pro-vigilante, but he’s not exactly anti-Cain Velasquez, either. Upon hearing that Velasquez was denied bail on charges of attempted murder while the man he tried to shoot – an alleged child molester – walks free, Smith couldn’t help but offer his take on the matter.
Speaking to Michael Bisping on the Believe You Me podcast, Smith said that, under the same circumstances, he would have done the exact same thing.
Anthony Smith Wonders Why Velasquez is Locked Up But Child Molester Walks Free
“I mean, it’s one of these situations where you have to tip-toe around it a little bit, because I don’t want to be the person to say I’m pro vigilante.
I’m not all about it. People shouldn’t be taking the law into their own hands. I promise you if I was in those shoes, I would’ve done the exact thing, at least that is my feeling. People that do those kinds of things shouldn’t be allowed to live with the rest of us.”
Smith continued, echoing the sentiments of many in the MMA community, that Velasquez’s attempt to murder the alleged molester was understandable, if not justifiable.
“There are robbers, thieves, and all these other kinds of crimes, you can come back from that stuff, you can get a second chance, you can change your life around (but that) you can’t come back from that s**t.
As a father, I can’t imagine how helpless you would feel knowing you took your child to this place every day and that is where it happened. It’s got to be a helpless feeling and I feel so f*****g bad for Cain Velasquez and his family. I can’t even put it into words.”
As it stands, Cain Velasquez is behind bars over the attempted murder. Velazquez pursued Harry Goularte, accused of molesting a family member of Velazquez’s, in a high-speed car chase. Velasquez, armed with a pistol, shot at Goularte, hitting and injuring the alleged child molester’s 63-year-old father in the process. At the time, Goularte was out on bail, and just yesterday, Cain Velasquez was denied bail.
“What kind of f****d world do we live in where that guy is walking the streets and Cain Velasquez isn’t? I’m not saying Cain needs to be free, I’m positive he went into that situation knowing I’m going to do this and I’m going to go to jail and I’m good with that.”
Do you think Cain Velasquez deserves to be behind bars? Let us know in the comments.
