March has been a mad month for New Japan Pro Wrestling, giving us one of the greatest New Japan Cup’s of all time. The 48 man field would bleed into many storylines, and has once again proven that Zack Sabre Jr. is one of the greatest tournament wrestlers of all time.
He was able to defeat Tetsuya Naito in the finals, busting out a massive spinning Sabre Driver for the victory. He’d quickly make his choice of title to challenge for – and is ready for another crack at Kazuchika Okada.
Zack Sabre Jr. Speaks On Wrestling Naito
Immediately after the match, once he had a chance to take some pictures holding the New Japan Cup for the second time – Zack Sabre Jr. would call out Kazuchika Okada. Bringing the New Japan Cup home is not enough, he wants to bring the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship home as well.
He’d also go into detail on what inspired his victory – stating the following after being pleased to get some cold beers to celebrate with.
“There’s still more hard work to be done. Four years, doesn’t feel like that long. This time, I don’t know if it’s the pandemic – being away from home for two years – this time means a little bit more.
Naito, we must stop doing this. Especially in Osaka. I’m not joking we really must stop doing this. Wrestling Naito is taking years off my life. My next is crumbling. Osaka is becoming our city isn’t it Naito?
Part of me almost feels sad Naito didn’t win. Part of me. But 99.1 % of me is over the bloody moon that I beat Naito. I don’t know, I went for the Driver, I I don’t know what he calls it – bloody lunacy. Valentia? Knocked me loopy again.”
Inspiration Struck From The Ghost Of George Michael
ZSJ was a bit rocked during the final moments of the match, and would explain just what was going through his head as he look Naito down for the three count.
“Got blacked out, when I came round – George Michael was there again. I said ‘Oh, hi George. George Michael said ‘Oh, hi Zack.’ And I said, ‘Sorry George, am I interrupting you?’, and he said ‘Oh yeah Zack, I’m about to play Tennis with Prince. I said ‘Oh, sorry George Michael. I don’t want to keep you busy.’
He went ‘Oh Zack, so you don’t need my advice?’ and I went ‘Oh George Michael – of course I need your advice.’ ‘Alright then, use the Tekkers’ I said ‘Thank you George Michael, but you told me that last time.’ And he went ‘Well alright then, use the bloody Sabre Driver” That’s why I decided to win with the Sabre Driver to win the match.
And even if that was a facetious hallucination of my almost concussed brain, I would like to dedicate this victory to George Michael, one of the greatest pop stars of all time. “
Now, ZSJ will have 10 days to recover before the next New Japan Pro Wrestling event, and is already looking towards April 9 and Hyper Battle in Ryogoku Sumo Hall.
