In the whirlwind of happenings on the UFC scene recently we were able to see and hear many call-outs and some really exciting fights.
Unfortunately for the MMA fans and for the whole UFC promotion, this is the year when one of its most exciting fighters announced his retirement. Nate Diaz is facing the end of his contract with the UFC. He announced that he is not looking to extend it anymore. Diaz says that he has already had enough and it is time to retire.
Nate Diaz Is Announcing His Retirement! – He Asks For Dustin Poirier To Be His Last Opponent
Until this big end of his UFC career, we have the honor of watching him fight one more time until the end of this year.
At the moment, Nate has a professional record of 20-13-0. His last fight was the one against Leon Edwards where he lost by a unanimous decision.
During his long and exciting career, he fought many famous UFC names such as Conor McGregor, Jorge Masvidal, Rafael Dos Anjos, Benson Henderson, etc.
Taken into consideration that this would be his last fight in the UFC and in his career in total, he has only one last request to Dana White.
“I would like to fight Dustin Poirier. Like now. Like I’ve been trying to. If there’s any mix-up it’s him, and them, and the game. I want the fight now. What’s up Dana White? Let’s get this retirement fight cracking so I can get out of this fighting game. I’m done with it.” – said Nate.
Both fighters, Nate Diaz and Dustin Poirier have agreed that they want to fight each other. Thus, they asked the UFC to book the fight for them. They were about to meet once before in 2018 at the UFC 230, however, the fight did not happen due to an injury on Dustin’s side.
Dana seems to have different plans for Nate Diaz. He is not letting him go so easily. Tried to arrange a fight between him and the new rising star Khamzat Chimaev, but the match never happened. Dana White had made several more propositions to Nate but none of them came true. Seems like Nate knows exactly who he wants to fight and will accept nothing less than that.
The reason behind Diaz’s retirement at such an early age of just 36 years is still not clear. However, there are rumors. It was said that he wants to switch sports and start competing in boxing. His first possible oponent being Jake Paul.
Even though we are not ready to see him go from the UFC, looks like he’s made his mind and there is no going back from it. Will Dana White fulfill his last wish? We are eagerly waiting to see.
All his fans and supporters will miss him in the UFC but will continue cheering him if he transfers to boxing. As regards the fight with Jake Paul, we hope that he comes out as a winner. He has the quality, strength, and endurance needed to win this.
