On Wednesday, April 20, rapper A$AP Rocky was arrested at LAX for his alleged involvement in a 2021 shooting. Remember, A$AP Rocky and Rihanna left for Barbados just after the false allegations that he had cheated on the “Umbrella” singer had been squashed.
A$AP Rocky Arrested at LAX in Connection to a 2021 Shooting
After being taken into custody, the “LSD” rapper was charged with assault with a deadly weapon by the Los Angeles PD. The LAPD made the arrest in cooperation with the Homeland Security Investigation division of ICE or Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
The charge dates back to an altercation on Saturday, November 6, 2021. At around 10:20 PM near Vista Del Mar and Selma Avenue, a suspect—later identified as Rocky—and two others approached the eventual shooting victim.
The “ASAP Forever” artist is said to have had a gun in hand and engaged in an argument with the victim before shooting at him, several times according to police reports. Fortunately, the victim survived the shooting and was only grazed by one of the shots.
It appears as though A$AP Rocky was being investigated the whole time before law enforcement came to the conclusion that he was the shooter. Since the shooter and the accomplices weren’t identified at the time and there wasn’t a murder, the shooting wasn’t publicized heavily.
Perhaps it was the sensitive nature of who was involved and the case needed more time to make sure that Rocky—real name Rakim Mayers—was their guy. Or maybe the “Better Things” performer was outside of their reach for the past five months—which seems the less likely of the two reasons.
Rocky and Rihanna are expecting their first child together soon and the arrest can’t be good for the expecting mother. More on this story as details come in.
