Bret Hart recently made headlines when it was announced he’d attend an event as the manager for FTR.
It sparked speculation that we could see him appear in AEW and continue as FTR’s manager since they fired Tully Blanchard, but that may not be the case according to recent reports.
The Wrestling Observer Newsletter reported that it’s believed in AEW that Bret signed a lucrative deal with the WWE.
This will most likely eliminate any chance of him appearing in AEW, and so far it looks like the only time he’ll manage FTR is at the Big Time Wrestling event that was previously advertised.
Slowing things down
Bret is reportedly interested in cutting back his public appearances and autograph signings by the end of the year. The only exceptions would be for events he finds fun.
While this has been taken as a sign that he signed with the WWE, Bret hasn’t said anything about it as yet, with the only comment he made was saying he’s not sure what he’d do in AEW.
FTR has said they’d love to work with him, but their currently scheduled event may be the only time if news of the contract is true.
Other endeavors
Adding to the speculation of what the future holds for Bret is also a rumor that he’s going to work on another book about life after wrestling and what made him love the sport as a kid.
Bret’s always been open and honest about his thoughts since he retired, so the fact he hasn’t said anything is a indicator that things aren’t as they may seem.
Of course, he could be keeping quiet to surprise the fans when he walks out at a show.
Another possibility that could influence his decision in this regard is he may not want to sign with AEW as it’s similar to WCW in many aspects.
He knows Vince McMahon and the WWE and that could be the better deal for him at the moment.
Until Bret says something or walks out on a WWE show we’re chalking all of this up as speculation at the moment as Meltzer even said it’s believed he signed.
The WWE has proven to be hit or miss when it comes to these rumors but it wouldn’t surprise us if they’re trying to bring Bret back even if it’s just for a few shows.
They’re big on using nostalgia to bring in viewers, and this would be another box checked in that category.
