The ‘Best Businessman’ in the world, the reformator, the innovator, the pioneer of space exploration, the ‘wunderkind’ Elon Musk is now taking over Twitter.
It seems like everything this guy touches turns to gold. Lately, he has put his eyes on Twitter, one of the biggest social media platforms there is.
Elon Musk Will Change Twitter For The Better – Here’s How
Imagine having so much money, that you can buy one of the biggest media platforms in the world just to advocate your free-speech absolutism.
I mean, many people have the money. Not all of them want to use it in such a way. That’s why Elon is different. The global public loves him for that.
“Free speech is the bedrock of a functioning democracy. Twitter is the digital town square where matters vital to the future of humanity are debated” – Elon tweeted.
He was constantly asking for lowering the limits of content restrictions.
A great percentage of the content that was published online in the past three years is censored. Starting with the COVID pandemic – up until the Russian-Ukrainian conflict evolved.
Everyone with a greater number of followers who was not sharing the same opinion as the globalists was muted and his posts were deleted or even restricted.
What frustrates me most, as a person who considers himself intelligent enough to form his own opinion – is the censure of public information and the totalitarianism of one side against the other.
The way to solve any given issue, regardless of the sphere where it origins is to make it public on a global platform. Ultimately, many people can discuss it, check and re-check it and then form an opinion.
When we are born we receive a gift. The ability to think. That is what intelligence is. That is the way we are forming opinions and choosing sides, this is the natural way and this is one of our basic human rights.
Annihilation of this right to form opinions is evident lately. We are facing a suppression of thinking, a suppression of opinion-forming, and opinion-sharing. A certain doom is inevitable if we continue with this pace. Change is what we need.
He will introduce an edit button – something not available on Twitter until now.
What is this about? How can you exclude the option to edit a post? We are human, we make mistakes. Editing posts is a necessity. That way you won’t need to erase the post.
Elon Musk mocked the current Twitter setup by generating a poll where he asked: “Do you want an edit button?” – and as a possible choice he gave – “yse, and on”. Elon Musk the comedian. He has a great taste for humor. We must give him that.
Another point that he mentioned is that he will make the Twitter algorithm open-source.
With this, he means not that he will make it available for the public to add buttons and play with the interface of the website, but that he will allow improvement of the ‘priority’ of tweets.
This is more or less connected to the first point for free speech. We have all been witnessing the serving of one-sided information regarding many things lately.
Improving the information ‘serving’ will boost the variety of information shared – by multiple times. That way we will be able to think with our heads. And not just swallow what is being chewed for us.
Condolences to Elon for this. If he keeps his word and allows this to come true, he will once more amaze the world with his open mind.
However, there is one concern about the above, according to Ramesh Srinivasan, a professor of media studies at the University of California. “Elon needs to deal with the underlying engine that is the instrument of free speech, to make sure that free speech is balanced not towards hate speech” – the professor said.
According to the professor, the algorithms promote engagement by steering emotional reactions. And what emotional reaction is most used on social media? That’s right, it’s hate speech.
This will need to be thought about very thoroughly. It might be very dangerous and ‘poisonous’ if it gets out of hand.
Finally, a no-bot platform. He will make Twitter a no-bot and no-fake-account platform.
How many times you have been added on any given social media by a fake account? The answer is countless times. All these fake accounts and ‘bots’ are existing for two or three main reasons. To manipulate you into buying some stuff, trick you into following some clickbait website, and scam you in every way you could imagine.
Advertise certain products through bots. This is not a new thing. It is as old as the social media. Lately we even face bots promoting cryptocurrencies. This is resulting in crypto scams which are costing people a considerable amount of money.
All this will be a forgotten past if Musk introduces this no-bots policy.
As funny as it sounds, the return of presidents Trump is one of his priorities when speaking of improvements to the platform.
Since Trump’s loss back in January 2021, he went on a rampage on all social media. He got out of control and was tweeting and posting literally every 15 minutes.
When his posts got so much out of control that he started organizing riots the social media platforms agreed on banning him.
Donald Trump was at once banned from Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and Snapchat. With this, they cut off his megaphone-like platforms. They stopped him from initiating a ‘further incitement of violence’ as Twitter representatives had said.
In conclusion from all the above, putting Twitter into Elon Musk’s hands is a good move. At last we will have a non-controlled platform. A promotion of free speech, opinion exchange, and natural information flow.
Finally, ever since the beginning of the internet people can be on the platform and use their heads to form an opinion. This is a major move towards a better-balanced society!
