D’Aundre Holmes-Wilfork, son of two-time Super Bowl champion Vince Wilfork, plead guilty to stealing his father’s championship rings and other memorabilia.
The Son of NFL Legend Vince Wilfork Pleads Guilty to Felony Theft of Super Bowl Rings
Documents obtained by TMZ Sports reveal that Holmes-Wilfork received “deferred community supervision” for five years. If he is able to stay out of trouble, his conviction will be done and dusted. The plea deal was agreed upon on Wednesday, April 20.
Holmes-Wilfork’s charge was for felony theft of property equal to or more than $300,000. When the rings were nabbed in May 2021, Vince Wilfork said that they were worth around $400,000. Along with the Super Bowl rings, D’Aundre Holmes-Wilfork took his father’s AFC rings, his 2001 National Championship ring, and several other pieces of jewelry.
Interestingly, Vince Wilfork mentioned that he first noticed that some of his belongings were missing a year before. However, he figured that they were simply in storage. Perhaps the other items could’ve been chalked up to “Maybe I put these things in storage” but missing Super Bowl rings are certainly noticeable.
The intent on the younger Wilfork’s end was to sell them—which he did. A fan told Wilfork that another fan had posted pictures of his championship rings on a memorabilia site. Wilfork called the collector and was told that he bought them from his son for $62,000. While he got the rings back, there are still other items belonging to the NFL great out there.
In addition to staying clean for five years, another condition of Holmes-Wilfork’s probation is to return his father’s belongings. The lawyer for D’Aundre Holmes-Wilfork issued a statement on the outcome to the Galveston County Daily News:
“The outcome that emerged from the case as a result of much self-reflection and healing on the defendant’s part and the willingness of his parents to forgive him and show him unconditional love with the sincere hope that he can be rehabilitated and go on to live a happy and productive life.”
Holmes-Wilfork was an athlete with a bright future himself. However, being busted with over 380 kilos of codeine resulted in him being dropped from the University of Houston’s football program in 2016.
