Exactly twenty years ago from today, the Queen Mother passed on from this life. She died in her sleep in Windsor and was buried in early April 2002. She was the spouse of King George VI father of Queen Elizabeth II.
In her remarks on the night before her mother’s burial, Queen Elizabeth disclosed that she was “deeply moved” by the “outpouring of affection” for her. She claimed that her late mother was loved by many Brits. Also, the monarch revealed that the number of tributes she received was overwhelming.
The Queen’s Mother Didn’t Support All Her Decisions
Meanwhile, royal expert Kinsey Schofield has claimed that the Queen Mother did not assent to all the decisions taken by the Queen. She disclosed that the Queen Mother and King George VI were heartbroken by Queen’s marital decision.
The royal commentator said that the royal couple was distressed when Queen Elizabeth II decided to marry a certain Prince Philip from Greece. She suggested that although they did not hate Philip, the royals loved the chemistry of their tight-knit family and didn’t want to change that. Ms. Schofield further claimed that the Queen Mother struggled when her husband died.
She revealed that the Queen Mother found it difficult to become accustomed to her new insignificant role. The royal expert said, “But in general it was hard for the Queen Mother to come to terms with her new reality. Ranking-wise, Queen Elizabeth and her consort [Philip] took precedence over her now. This was simply a hard pill for her to swallow.”
Ms. Schofield also maintained that Queen Mother was vocal about her the Queen’s decision to marry Philip and developed a collection of nicknames for him. She said, “Truth be told, the Queen Mother had an arsenal of cringe-worthy nicknames behind closed doors.”
Despite their disagreements, It is believed that the Queen Mother shared an intimate relationship with her daughter Queen Elizabeth II. She reportedly remained a close adviser of the Monarch till her death.
