We’re just getting started with Championship week in AEW. Last night on AEW Dynamite, we saw the AEW World Tag Team Championships & ROH World Television Championships defended, and there is a lot more to come.
Hangman Page will defend the AEW World Heavyweight Championship against Adam Cole in a Texas Deathmatch during AEW Rampage. Meanwhile Thunder Rosa & Scorpio Sky defend the AEW World Women’s & TNT Championships at Battle of The Belts.
However, also booked for this Saturday Night Special is a match for the ROH World Championship – with both Jonathan Gresham & Dalton Castle making their AEW debuts.
Jonathan Gresham & Dalton Castle Are Two Of ROH’s Best Talents
With AEW owner Tony Khan having bought Ring of Honor, it was only a matter of time before their top champion showed up on AEW programming. Jonathan Gresham proved himself as the Undisputed ROH World Champion when he defeated Bandido at Supercard of Honor, and will now continue his crusade to make this championship feel like the biggest in the world.
He’s been considered one of the greatest technical wrestlers in the world for years now, and every match from Gresham is truly a treat. Simply put- you don’t draw comparisons to Bryan Danielson easily.
The next step comes against a former champion, Dalton Castle. Castle was the man to end the ROH World Championship reign of former AEW EVP Cody Rhodes, but tragically suffered a back injury during his reign. Despite this, Castle trudged on through the reign – ultimately dropping the belt to Jay Lethal. His toughness is second only to his showmanship, which has to be seen to be believed.
While Gresham has a heavy focus on his in-ring abilities, Castle often relies on his flamboyant character work during his matches – but is capable of some deadly suplexes. This is truly two of the best that ROH had to offer, and both are expected to get contracts with AEW & ROH.
These two will clash on Saturday Night at 8PM EST. Battle of the Belts will have live coverage right here on TheOvertimer.
