We’re looking at the top five theme songs of the Attitude Era. These are the themes that really scream “Attitude”. Again, did your favorite make the list?
Honorable Mention: The Brood/Gangrel – Blood
A theme song that didn’t make the top ten but would’ve made the top fifteen was “Blood”. This theme was so damn cool and this awesome bounce to it. Go to YouTube, turn your lights off, if you have LED lights, put it on red, and bump this one. I do this at least once or twice a week.
5. Ken Shamrock – The Ultimate
Number three on my personal favorites list is “The Ultimate”. It opens with a pretty generic guitar riff then goes into this cold-sounding beat featuring a bell—and it rides. I’d say it perfectly fit “The World’s Most Dangerous Man” perfectly.
4. Owen Hart – Enough Is Enough
Honestly, this would be my personal first or second pick but the list is a combination of favorites and what really says “Attitude Era.” When Owen Hart was left alone in WWE after the rest of the Hart Foundation bounced, he got new gear and a dope theme that had some speed to it.
Actually, it sounds like a theme from Sonic the Hedgehog 3 with a cool anvil strike sound effect in it.
3. Triple H – My Time
This one is similar to Owen Hart’s “Enough Is Enough” in that It could be number one or number two. However, it’s definitely my favorite Triple H theme of all time. “My Time” was great for the period in his career between being the leader of D-Generation X and becoming “The Cerebral Assassin”. When I hear this theme, I either get the image of Triple H stopping on the entrance ramp with Chyna on an episode of RAW and still wore tights or wearing the Eagle belt with a young Stephanie by his side.
2. Stone Cold Steve Austin – I Won’t Do What You Tell Me
This is the classic Stone Cold Steve Austin theme. Over the years, it would be tweaked slightly until his theme was changed completely for “Glass Shatters” by Disturbed. It was that time in rock music when the Korn, Disturbed, Godsmack, and Slipknot were getting their shine and WWE had to keep up with the times to a degree. Austin wouldn’t keep the Disturbed theme long. Besides, when you think Stone Cold, you don’t think of a theme song that requires lyrics at all.
What theme song is number one? Feast your eyes on:
1. The Corporate Ministry – Evil Empire
That’s right! Sure, The Ministry of Darkness theme was boss on its own. Actually, it was much better than The Corporation’s theme which was just Vince McMahon’s theme song—but the fact remains, the Ministry’s was just better. When you put the two together, you get something that is unexpectedly good.
“Evil Empire” is like the Reese’s Cup of wrestling themes. Someone thought “Peanut butter and chocolate might taste good together” and stumbled upon the Reese’s Cup while coming up with a new candy. In the case of “Evil Empire”, two factions merged and needed a new theme. Why not smush them together and see if it slaps?
You know what? It did. The Corporate Ministry’s theme slaps hard. Even the Titantron for it is cool as hell and the Corporate Ministry was mostly made up of midcard cannon fodder!
