Estelle Harris—famous for her role as George Costanza’s mother on Seinfeld—passed away of natural causes on Saturday, April 2.
TV Mom and “Seinfeld” Actress Estelle Harris Dead at 93 of Natural Causes
Her son, Glen Harris, broke the news to Deadline saying the following:
“It is with the greatest remorse and sadness to announce that Estelle Harris has passed on this evening at 6:25pm. Her kindness, passion, sensitivity, humor, empathy and love were practically unrivaled, and she will be terribly missed by all those who knew her.”
While Harris would become best-known for portraying Estelle Costanza on the popular 90s sitcom, she started acting in 1977 after her children started school. Initially, she found work early success doing commercials but had memorable appearances on several popular television shows from the late 80s into the late 2010s.
Known for her high-pitched voice, Estelle Harris found further success as a voice actor in both animated films and cartoons. Her final film role saw her return as the voice of Mrs. Potato Head in Toy Story 4, a fitting role as she’d been featured in or had regular roles in several Disney shows over the years.
Tributes came in over the weekend with Jason Alexander—who portrayed George Costanza—paid his respects to the 93-year-old on Twitter saying:
“One of my favorite people has passed – my tv mama, Estelle Harris. The joy of playing with her and relishing her glorious laughter was a treat. I adore you, Estelle. Love to your family. Serenity now and always. #RIPEstelleHarris”
