Both Rey Fenix & Kyle O’Reilly had hard fights to get into the field of the Owen Hart Memorial Cup, but only one will advance past tonight. It’s going to be a complete styles clash tonight, as a high flyer meets a technical wrestler – with both men having deadly strikes as well. The winner will face Samoa Joe in the semi-finals.
Kyle O’Reilly Gives Rey Fenix Two Choices – Tap or Snap
O’Reilly would nail a boot to the face to start this match, before getting an armbar attempt by countering a Sunset Flip. Fenix would get free and head to the top rope, and O’Reilly grabbed the wrist yet was kicked off. O’Reilly was sent to the floor, and nailed with a massive dive.
Into the ring, Fenix would look a frog splash, and was caught into a triangle choke. Back to the outside, Fenix was driven shoulder first into the ring post twice, and was starting to feel this pain. O’Reilly would hit a kick to the chest, before hitting a running dropkick as Fenix sat in a steel chair.
Back into the ring, O’Reilly would work at the knee of Fenix, trying to take another limb out. Fenix would fire back with some kicks of his own, but couldn’t hit the Slingshot Hook Kick. He’d manage to hit a hurricanrana, but was only able to get a one count. O’Reilly caught a flying Fenix, and would hit a series of rolling Butterfly suplexes.
Fenix shot back with a step up rolling solebutt kick, before a Half & Half Suplex. He’d be kicked to the ropes, but managed the Slingshot Hook Kick. O’Reilly came back with a lariat, and would look for a double wrist lock. A superkick to the jaw would follow Fenix breaking free, before a rope walk hurricanrana to the floor.
Twisting cutter from Fenix in the ring was caught into a combination armbar and knee bar – and Fenix had no choice but to tap out. Kyle O’Reilly advances to face Samoa Joe in the semi-finals of the tournament.
Jericho Appreciation Society vs. Blackpool Combat Club & Pals At Double Or Nothing Confirmed
Last week, the Jericho Appreciation Society realised they made a lot of enemies. Jon Moxley brought the Blackpool Combat Club, putting Bryan Danielson & William Regal against the J.A.S, in addition to Kingston, Santana, and Ortiz making their return. Regal ended up punching Jericho out, and tonight these two legends meet face to face in the ring.
Everyone was here to back up William Regal, just in case the Jericho Appreciation Society decided to get physical. Angelo Parker would decide that this crowd doesn’t deserve to hear Judas by Fozzy, because AEW fans last week cheered for them getting beaten down. Jericho knew his old friend Regal was the only man who could organise such a big attack.
It was good to see Regal, as Jericho expected him to be dead by now. Regal took this in stride, as Jericho called him wasted potential. He should have been a world class champion, but instead was a world class addict. Regal has been fired from everywhere, and weaselled into AEW on the co-tails of his proteges. Jericho ripped into the men backing Regal up, before telling them to stay home.
Regal would say that since ‘97, he’s heard too much of his pathetic voice. He acknowledges Jericho knows his past well, but what kept him going? Knowing that whenever he shared a locker room with Jericho, he would sneak into the bag of Jericho, steal the toothbrush, and stick it where the sun doesn’t shine.
Jericho winced at this, and offered a match for Double or Nothing. They can all fight in one of the greatest matches in AEW, Stadium Stampede. Moxley said that he wasn’t doing that shit, instead it’s just any anything goes ten man tag.
