Since the start of All Elite Wrestling, there has been loads of speculation on when they would introduce trios championships. This is due to an incredibly high volume of trios in the company, including The Elite, Death Triangle, The Undisputed Elite, House of Black, Best Friends, Blackpool Combat Club, Gunn Club and more. They have arguably the best trios division in the world – and could debut championships any day now.
AEW Trios Belts Have Been Made – But AEW Is Waiting To Pull The Trigger
In a report from Dave Meltzer through the Wrestling Observer newsletter, we would learn that trios belts have been created. AEW is just waiting to pull the trigger on introducing the titles. This will likely mean a tournament will all the top trios in AEW today, which could mean waiting for Kenny Omega to be healthy.
There is already money in The OG Elite vs. The Undisputed Elite, but having that as the finals of a big tournament on a PPV could be massive for AEW. Seeds have been planted ever since Omega left AEW TV for a feud with Adam Cole, but he’s taken longer than expected to recover from his various injuries.
Waiting For An Opening To Run A Major Tournament?
There is no rush for AAEW to introduce these new championships, especially with ROH championships starting to become more involved on AEW programming. They can easily wait until 2022 – or whenever there is a bit of a lull in excitement ahead of a PPV. Right now, we have the Owen Hart Memorial Cup leading into Double or Nothing, and following that we can expect more crossover with NJPW ahead of Forbidden Door & All Out.
This all means we could see AEW wait until Winter 2022 to start to reveal these belts, and gives even more time to build up a legitimate division to battle over them. We already have nearly 16 possible trios, and that number could possibly just grow over time.
