Last week on AEW Dynamite, fans saw a fantastic main event between Scorpio Sky & Sammy Guevara. They risked it all in a ladder match over the TNT Championship, and fans were 100% behind Sky throughout, potentially turning him face in the process. He would go on to claim the belt, kicking off his second reign as champion – and his plans for the belt are simple.
Scorpio Sky Hopes To Have Some Classics As TNT Champion
While speaking on the ‘Throwing Down with Miesha Tate & Renee Paquette’ podcast, Sky would discuss his plans for his second reign as TNT Champion. In short – remain champion for longer than the first time, and have some classic matches in the process. However the full quote from Sky is as follows.
“I didn’t get to do too much in my first run, I lost the title in like 31 days and only had one title defence, unfortunately, but I did regain the championship in the shortest period of time in AEW history; 12 days. Now, we have a new start and the first thing I want to do is hold on to it for at least 32 days. Really, I want to have some classics.
I grew up a diehard, passionate wrestling fan that dreamt of winning championships and having classic matches. If I can run with this title for six months, a year, or longer and really get in the ring with everyone and have some memorable championship matches that I used to like watching when I grew up, that was the goal. Telling stories, most of all, above everything else, I want to tell stories. That’s what people remember and that’s how you leave your mark.”
His First Challenger Is Already Set
We have the potential for a classic coming up in his first defence. Sky promised his old tag team partner Franke Kazarian the first shot – and intends to make good on his promise. Sky & Kaz were the first ever AEW World Tag Team Champions, as part of the SCU faction.
We’re also likely to see Sky defend against his current tag team partner Ethan Page during this reign – with a split likely. Fans are mainly just hoping that the TNT Championship has another lengthy reign, with the last five reigns not hitting 100 days. The last long reign was from Miro in 2021, which lasted 140 days with eight successful defences.
