Amber Heard finally took the stand in her trial against her ex-husband, Johnny Depp on Wednesday May 4. While Depp has had his time on the stand for his testimony, it is Heard’s turn to speak her truth. Although many might see Heard as yet another victim of domestic violence, body language expert Judi James has something to say about this.
Judi James Says Amber Heard And Johnny Depp Might Have Been Trained By Their Legal Team
James said to MailOnline that the fact that both parties involved are actors that know how to play their roles convincingly well, it would be difficult to tell how they truly feel on the stand. She also expressed that it is possible that they have also been well trained by their legal teams on how to react on stand so as not to give away their true emotions.

When Heard took the stand on Wednesday and was asked to speak about her age and job and also tell why she was at court, she smiled towards the judge and then turned to the jury before speaking; Judi interpreted these body languages to be Heard trying to “humanize herself rather than isolating herself as a celebrity.”
Judi added that the action “shows a certain amount of respect to them to want to address them directly…it helps build some early connections.” It was also pointed out that with Heard’s position and her hair tucked behind her ear by her side, the jury were able to see her eyes. “We tend to trust people more when we can see their eye expression so this gesture could suggest she has nothing to hide,” Judi said.
While many claim that Amber appeared to be crying, they didn’t see tears rolling down her face, Judi said it was difficult to tell based on the camera’s angle. However, Amber’s tears were truncated rather than steaming tears that one would expect to find, “is that bad acting or the innocent complex response of someone with mixed emotions?” Judi asked.
Judi James’ Body Language Analysis Of Amber Heard
Speaking about body posture and body movement, Judi explained that no matter the level of training a person might have undergone by their legal team, body posture could readily give them away. During Amber’s testimony, she was sitting hunched, as opposed to her upright position when Depp was giving his testimony.
Amber also made a lot of gesticulations with her right hand which Judi said were in agreement with what was being expressed as evidence. “Her right hand was visible as she related dramatic moments from her past and in general her gestures began before her words were formed, which is usually a sign of authenticity.” Judi said. Other body languages like Amber staring down at her ex-husband, the half smiles she gave from time to time and nose wrinkles made reading Amber difficult.
Staring down at Depp could be read as dominance or just honesty, also with wrinkling her nose while giving her testimony, Judi stated that Amber did this while she was “trying to search for the right words” which could mean that Amber’s testimony was original.
