Last week, ABC canned former The Wonder Years star Fred Savage from the show’s reboot because of misconduct allegations. Now, Savage says he is “reflecting on any wrongdoing.”
Fred Savage Is Doing Some “Self-Reflection” After Being Dropped from “The Wonder Years” Reboot Following Misconduct Investigation
Sources close to Savage spoke with Page Six and said that the reboot director is taking the situation seriously:
“Fred has really taken this issue very seriously and is doing a lot of self-reflection about how he could and should have handled different circumstances better.”
In a bit of a change from the usual, the allegations in question aren’t sexual allegations. Those allegations are almost 30 years behind Savage and fellow star Jason Hervey. Instead, they could be more in line with the allegations that Fred Savage settled in 2019. In that situation, Savage was on the set of the Fox show The Grinder and is said to have berated and even struck a crew member, costume designer Youngjoo Hwang.
These issues date back years and across multiple networks and Savage maintained that the allegations were false. This time, “self-reflection” appears to be a sound approach for Fred Savage on a personal level if these issues flooded within a short period of time.
That previously mentioned source said that Savage has “some unresolved issues” he wants to deal with and has the support of his wife as well as friends and others from The Wonder Years.
Following his role as Kevin Arnold on the original The Wonder Years from 1988 until 1993, Fred Savage moved into directing towards the end of the 1990s. He has worked on the popular ABC sitcoms Modern Family and Black-ish, so working on the reboot of his show and working with the ABC family again seemed like a perfect fit.
That said, the 45-year-old actor and director have come up here and there as a Hollywood personality who can be hard to deal with at times. Savage’s firing came on Friday, May 6 following an investigation by ABC’s 20th Television. The studio’s statement into the firing read:
“Recently, we were made aware of allegations of inappropriate conduct by Fred Savage, and as is policy, an investigation was launched. Upon its completion, the decision was made to terminate his employment as an executive producer and director of The Wonder Years.”
