Matthew Morrison has been caught breaking the rules and now he’s lost his job. Morrison has been let go from the Fox reality show ‘So You Think You Can Dance’ after he failed to follow production protocols during filming. Morrison was serving as a judge on the dance competition alongside JoJo Siwa and Stephen “tWitch” Boss before announcing his departure from the series.
“Having the opportunity to be a judge on ‘So You Think You Can Dance’ was an incredible honor for me. Therefore, it is my deepest regret to inform you that I will be leaving the show,” Morrison said in a prepared statement.
Matthew Morrison Axed As ‘So You Think You Can Dance’ Judge For Failing To Follow ‘Production Protocols’
“After filming the audition rounds for the show and completing the selection of the 12 finalists, I did not follow competition production protocols, preventing me from being able to judge the competition fairly,” he explained. “I cannot apologize enough to all involved and I will be watching alongside you all on what I know will be one of the best seasons yet.”
The exact reason for Morrison’s firing remains a mystery, but his breach of protocol was serious enough to cost him his job. This must be an embarrassing blow to Morrison, who somehow managed to get fired from his new job in record time.
Season 17 of ‘So You Think You Can Dance’ premiered on May 18 and Morrison will appear in a total of four episodes since the show has already been airing prior to his dismissal. A new judge will be selected to take Morrison’s place when the series resumes on June 15. ‘So You Think You Can Dance’ premiered in 2005 and its consistent popularity has resulted in the SYTYCD franchise going international. It was created by Simon Fuller and Nigel Lythgoe, the same producers who gave us American Idol.
Matthew Morrison was originally hired to replace Nigel Lythgoe, who was not asked back after serving as a judge for sixteen seasons. Former judges Mary Murphy and Laurieann Gibson were also replaced in an attempt to shake up the panel of judges and bring a fresher feel to the show.
The only one not to be recast was Cat Deely, who made her return as the show’s host. Morrison has been nominated for a Tony Award and is best known for his role on ‘Glee’ as well as his extensive experience on Broadway.
