The former IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion El Desperado has a tough test ahead of him, as he faces a grizzled young veteran of NJPW in TJP. Coming off a win over Titán, Desperado proved speed is not an issue for him – but will have to contend with perhaps the best technical wrestler in the tournament with TJP tonight. TJP put on a clinic against Master Wato, and controlled the pace throughout, but can he do the same to Desperado?
TJP Doesn’t Rush Into A Match With El Desperado
TJP would not immediately rush Desperado like he did Wato, knowing this is a very different level of match. They’d lock up hard to start the match, but Desperado would grab the first headlock. TJP would almost counter into a cobra twist, showing his submission skills.
Desperado would grab a wrist lock, and TJP was able to block into a headscissor. TJP would get countered, before turning the headscissors of Desperado into a Bow & Arrow stretch. Desperado flipped out into a pin, before tying up the arm of TJP in the ropes – and raking the eyes.
This one would spill to the outside, and TJP drove Desperado into the ring post. Back into the ring, TJP would apply a rear chinlock, before a leg sweep and the Muta Lock. He’d move right into an armbreaker, snapping things back suddenly. TJP followed up with a floating senton over the ropes, but only got a two count.
Desperado would fire back with a spear, before kicking at the leg of TJP in the corner. Inverted Dragon Screw would cause further punishment, before Desperado would look to apply Numero Dos. TJP rolled to the apron, and would suplex Desperado across the top rope, before diving in with a splash off the top rope.
El Desperado Shows The Determination To Win
He’d quickly roll Desperado back into the ring for the Bamba Splash, but Desperado was able to kick out at two. Detonation Kick was set, but Desperado blocked into a roll up. Jumping back kick would land from TJP, before a spinebuster from Desperado.
TJP was able to apply the Cobra Twist, but Desperado was able to hang on and apply Numero Dos as a counter. Desperado would get caught into a roll up, before TJP looked to apply the STF. Desperado kept his head ducked to prevent the hold, before being taken over with a back suplex.
Both men would show the toll of this match as they slowed down and exchanged forearm blows. TJP hit a tight spinning DDT out of the corner, before going for the top rope splash again. Desperado would rush into the Numero Dos attempt, and was able to trap just one arm. TJP would try to counter, but was dropped with the Bastard Driver.
Desperado hit a straight right hand to the jaw, but TJP countered Pinche Loco on the first attempt. Second go around, TJP was planted – and wasn’t kicking out from that one. El Desperado pushes to four points.
