Clark Connors is at risk of being eliminated from the tournament, after failing to defeat Taiji Ishimori yesterday. Meanwhile, Hiromu Takahashi got a very important win over Alex Zayne, putting him on a track to potentially end this tournament with 12 points. However, with Connors truly having his back against the wall, Hiromu would be wise to not look past The Wild Rhino here tonight.
Clark Connors Loses Infront Of His Trainer, Hiromu Takahashi
Katsuyori Shibata would join Japanese commentary for this match, watching his student Clark Connors here tonight. Connors would run Hiromu down with a shoulder tackle, before both men exchanged chops. Hiromu was dropped with another tackle, before he’d catch Connors with a choke over the ropes. Connors was taken to the floor, where Hiromu slammed him face first into the ring post.
Back into the ring, Hiromu would nearly force the early pinfall – before nailing a blindside dropkick to the hurt shoulder. Hiromu would go for a double wrist lock, before Connors found the bottom rope. Connors would be punished with a handful of chops, before he’d try for a spear.
Hiromu blocked the spear, but was caught into a Belly to Belly Suplex. Trophy kill ws blocked, before Hiromu Bomber would land. Connors hung on and hit a Wheelbarrow Suplex, before Hiromu caught the Spear into D.
Connors fought free and hit something more akin to The Gore, before a powerslam. Hiromu would block Trophy Kill into D, with Connors almost slipping out before taking the stunner. Back into D,and Connors was forced to tap out. His tournament is all but over, with just one match left to go.
Ace Austin has been able to maintain his top spot all the way through the tournament, only tied by Taiji Ishimori in the A-Block, and having the tie-breaker over the reigning IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion. However tonight, he needs to deal with the biggest trap match possible at this stage of the tournament. Ryusuke Taguchi is hard to read at the best of times, has nothing to lose – yet everything to gain by defeating the X-Division champion.
Taguchi would look to start with a hip attack, but the iron hard quads of Austin were a perfect block. Austin would take Taguchi into a side headlock, before being tripped up. He’d trip Taguchi in response, before hitting a kick right to the spine.
Austin would be taken onto the ropes with a face full of Taguchi’s underwear. He’d shove free, before grabbing the armbar – but slicing the butt of Taguchi instead, and promptly throwing the card away. Austin pulled the pants of Taguchi back up, before applying a tight body-scissor hold.
Taguchi was caught in the corner with some, before the springboard into the ring was blocked. Austin would be hit with the triangle plancha, before some B-Triggers in the ring. Bome-B would be blocked into a clutch pinfall, before a headscissor would be applied.
Taguchi would avoid Soar to Glory on the floor, but would get kicked in the head. Back in the ring, The Fold was the plan, but Taguchi would nail a hip attack and Dodon was set before a roll up counter. House of Cards would fall, but Taguchi blocked into a roll up for the victory.
