While fans are tuning in for the five matches in the Best of the Super Juniors tournament tonight – we will kick things off with the debut of AEW’s Wheeler Yuta in Japan. He will team with the current crop of Young Lions, as he takes on the legendary Tiger Mask, Hiroyoshi Tenzan, and two other BOSJ entrants in Robbie Eagles & Master Wato. Eagles & Tiger Mask are former tag team champions, so uniting them could be a recipe for an easy win here tonight.
Master Wato Kicks Off This Tour With A Victory
Yuta would get things started alongside Eagles, and trade control of a wrist lock – before showing why he’s the ROH Pure Champion with a quick slam. Oiwa & Tiger Mask got some ring time, with Oiwa being kicked aside. Tenzan & Nakashima would get tags, and the lone heavyweight in this match chopped the Young Lion to size.
Wato would try and take Nakashima down, before tagging in Eagles. Yuta would make his way back into the ring to show his opponent for May 17th just what he’s bringing when they meet. Young Lions would run down Wato in the corner, with a near fall coming from Fujita after a big suplex.
Fujita would light Wato up with some chops and a dropkick, before Wato went to the apron and nailed the gamiguri and diving uppercut. Recientemente would land, and Wato put this eight man tag team match to an end.
LIJ Takes Out BULLET CLUB
BULLET CLUB have been looking to once again run NJPW, and they have a strong set of entrants in this year’s Best of the Super Juniors tournament. While Taiji Ishimori will main event tonight’s event, El Phantasmo will team up with Dick Togo for some tag team action here tonight. They will be facing down former IWGP World Heavyweight Champion Shingo Takagi and BUSHI however – a tough team to defeat.
BUSHI & ELP would start this match, with ELP showing off his athletic skills before taking a codebreaker. Shingo tagged in, and would work alongside BUSHI to beat ELP down. BUSHI was pulled to the floor by Togo, and BULLET CLUB was able to beat him down. Togo would rake the back of BUSHI in the ring, before ELP hit a double springboard into a back rake.
BUSHI nailed a hurricanrana off the top rope, but ELP was sent right into a tag to Dick Togo. Shingo would match the veteran, before a spinebuster & backstabber combo got a near fall. BUSHI would nail a dive on ELP, wiping him out into the announce table. In the ring, Shingo would hit Pumping Bomber for the win.
Two Previews Of B-Block Action In Best Of The Super Juniors
Titán is here from CMLL to once again show the fans of Japan why lucha libre is such a celebrated style. However, before he starts his run in the Best of the Super Juniors tournament – he will team with Jado and El LINDAMAN in trios action – as they take on DOUKI, TAKA Michinoku, and former IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion El Desperado.
El LINDAMAN is the G-REX Champion in GLEAT – and is actively defending his championship during this tournament as well. He has a title defence on Wednesday, and his B-Block starts on Tuesday. Titán was back in NJPW after three years away, and he’s come into his own in CMLL lately.
Titán would start alongside Desperado, hitting a dropkick to send Desperado to the floor before teasing a dive. Desperado was kicked to the mat, before Jado hit the ring – and was ambushed by Michinoku. DOUKI would look to keep Jado down before taking a big lariat. LINDAMAN hit the ring for a split leg dropkick to DOUKI & Michinoku, before taking a throat thrust.
DOUKI applied the DOUKI-Chokey, before looking for the Daybreak DDT. Instead, Titán would meet Desperado in the ring with a big DDT before a thrust kick. Spinebuster would land, before Michinoku tagged in – and Titán drove him down into the match. Jado would hold Desperado & DOUKI in place for a dive from LINDAMAN before a springboard double stomp from Titán in the ring for the win.
