Meghan Markle’s estranged father, Thomas Markle is currently recovering at a San Diego hospital after suffering a possible stroke that has rendered him speechless. Many have wondered if this major event will move the Duchess of Sussex to finally mend their broken relationship. Even as the patriarch fights for his life, it appears unlikely that Meghan will pay him a visit.
Thomas, 77, was set to fly to London for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee before his health went downhill. As he lays helpless in a hospital that is only a mere four hour drive from Meghan’s Montecito mansion, pressure is mounting for Meghan to make the first move to make amends.
Meghan Markle Unlikely To Reconcile With Father Thomas Markle Following Health Crisis and Hospitalization
“Meghan hasn’t released any statement and I doubt she intends to go down there. That bridge is burned,” attested Duncan Larcombe, a royal writer for The Sun.
Other opinions suggest that Meghan might try to feign concern about her father in order to maintain the appearance of a considerate and compassionate public figure. “If she’s clever, she will find a way to visit and reconcile,” a source said before arguing that her $100 million deal with a popular streaming platform may be the push she needs to reach out. “Let’s see if Netflix leans on her. They might well do so. Filthy lucre might work where decency failed.”
Meghan Markle and her father have had a publicly quarrelsome relationship for years. Thomas has frequently spoken out against his daughter while Meghan has received ample backlash for not including him in her life since becoming a member of the royal family.
The demise of their relationship came in 2018 just before Meghan was to marry Prince Harry in an extravagant royal wedding ceremony. Thomas had gone behind Meghan’s back by working with paparazzi to stage photos in exchange for a lucrative payout. Thomas had also been selling stories about his daughter to the press. He went on to suffer a heart attack and missed the wedding, but even that health crisis wasn’t enough for the two to reconcile.
Meghan’s half-sister, Samantha, has also been open about her disdain for her estranged sister. “If she can’t find it in her heart or have the moral conscience to step forward then shame on her. He doesn’t have a lot of time. She’s going to have to live with that for the rest of her life,” she said while being interviewed on GB News’s ‘Dan Wootton Tonight’.
Samantha even went as far to say that she considers Meghan’s disassociation from Thomas to be ‘negligence.’ “He’s been through so much,’ she explained. ‘Two heart attacks, a pandemic and now a stroke. None of us have heard from Meghan – that’s negligence,” she declared.
Only time will tell whether or not Meghan Markle is ready to forgive and forget all of her father’s misgivings, but at this point a reunion seems like a virtual impossibility.
