This Sunday at AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door, either FTR or Jeff Cobb & Great-O-Khan will leave without tag team gold. It will be a triple threat winner takes all match, with the ROH & IWGP Tag Team Championships on the line, with Roponngi Vice as the third team. Ahead of this, Cash Wheeler & Jeff Cobb will meet tonight in singles action. Both men are 0-1 in singles matches within AEW, but tonight someone will even out their singles records. Cobb is a much more seasoned singles wrestler however, going deep into the 2021 G1 Climax – while Wheeler is more of a tag team specialist.
Jeff Cobb Throws Cash Wheeler Around Like A Child
Wheeler was absolutely outsized in this match, but would grab a quick headlock. Cobb would lift him with ease and send him off, before shrugging off a shoulder tackle. Wheeler would drop step into the German Suplex set up, but could not get Cobb up.
Cobb would get a headlock, and Wheeler tried to block into the drop toehold, but Cobb stopped him dead in his tracks. Mat return would take Wheeler down, before he’d go back into a headlock. Dropkick would stun Cobb, but a flapjack onto the top rope would follow. Spin-Cycle Suplex would send Wheeler flying, before he’d roll to the floor.
Cobb would nail a knee strike on the floor, before running Wheeler into the ring post back first. Wheeler shot back with some chops, before being whipped into the ringpost again. Some double axe handles would put Wheeler on the mat in the ring, before he’d hit the standing moonsault press for a two count.
United Empire Stands Tall Tonight
Wheeler would be tossed across the ring with a suplex, before being taken into the Canadian Backbreaker. Cobb would lose control, and Wheeler would apply the sleeper hold. He’d fail to break free by crushing Wheeler into the corner, but was unable to get the submission.
Some heavy strikes would land, before Wheeler nailed the chopblock and the running elbow smash. Cobb was sent to the floor, and Wheeler finally struck him down with a dive to the floor. Some mounted punches would follow, before a powerbomb in the ring for a two count.
Cobb would look for another moonsault but missed. He’d chuck Wheeler aside after blocking a tornado DDT. Tour of the Islands was countered into a small package for two, before Wheeler was snapped down with a German Suplex. Tour of the Islands landed, and Cobb gets the win!
After the match, FTR, Best Friends, and United Empire would all brawl it out – and Eddie Kingston even rushed in to attack Chris Jericho. Kingston would stab Jericho with a pen, and fans wanted more.
