Some of the greatest tag team matches in AEW’s history have come between the Lucha Bros & Young Bucks. Tonight, they meet once again, as California fans get to see two of the best tag teams in the world meet – in what might well determine who gets to challenge for the AEW World Tag Team Championships next. Young Bucks have the hometown edge here tonight, being close enough for it to count.
Lucha Bros Came To Win
Penta would start alongside Matt Jackson. After the required taunting from Penta to start things up, with Matt barking back – with the crowd eating it up. Matt hit the kick to the gut before Penta went for Slingblade. It was blocked, but Penta would nearly nail the Fear Factor. Matt broke free before almost taking the arm breaker.
Nick & Fenix would hit the ring swinging, with Fenix missing the rebound skull kick before Nick hit a beautiful armdrag. This one spilled to the floor with both men having last second dodged to strikes, slipping into the ring, before a double roundhouse kick. Nick & Fenix had a stare of respect, but Matt snuck in and struck Fenix from behind.
Young Bucks would keep the pressure on with some double team offence, before Penta hit a dive to the floor. With the Young Bucks stunned, Fenix nailed a double jump tornado. Back into the ring, Matt would lock in a sharpshooter on Fenix, but Penta grabbed an armbar on Nick.
Fenix slipped to the floor and took a PK to the chest, before managing to catch Nick with the rolling cutter. Frog Splash into the ring would just be met by two knees to the chest. Penta & Nick would face off, before Fenix looked to finally get some double team offence.
Young Bucks Resort To Underhanded Tricks To Claim Win
Nick took them both down, before the Locomotion Northern Lights Suplexes would end with a two for one special. The backdrop powerbomb would be blocked by a hurricanrana, before Young Bucks took back to back Foot Stomp DDT’s. Fenix wiped out Nick with a cannonball dive, before nailing a frog splash on Matt for a near fall.
Matt was set up on the top rope, and Fenix went onto Penta’s shoulder for a superplex, but Nick turned this into a Doomsday Device dropkick. Off the top rope with an elbow drop, Matt would get the near fall. Fenix and Nick would trade blows, before Nick took two kicks to the face. Penta launched Fenix into a splash, before jumping off his brothers back for a destroyer, but Nick kicked out. Fenix would have the Black Fire Driver blocked into a roll up, before a superkick and poisonarana.
Superkick Party would follow, before Fenix dodged the BTE Trigger. Meltzer Driver would land, but Penta broke the pinfall up. Penta would get unmasked and superkicked, before Fenix fell to the BTE Trigger. Matt wore the mask of Penta after the match, a show of disrespect to one of their biggest rivals.
