Amber Heard has fired back at Johnny Depp following the actor’s first TikTok post in which he stressed the need to move forward.
Amber Heard Slams Johnny Depp For Demeaning Women-‘Depp Says He’s Moving Forward, Women’s Rights Are Moving Backward’
The actor finally put the defamation trial behind him after the jury ruled that he should be awarded damages close to $10 million. And yet, Amber’s legal team has made it clear that she cannot afford to pay that sum, as well as their intention of appealing.
With that being said, Amber wanted to let everybody know just how damaging the judgment was for women’s rights. And rather than going forward in a progressive nature, she felt that the decision would deter others from speaking out.
In an official statement given on behalf of Heard, a representative said: “As Johnny Depp says he’s ‘moving forward,’ women’s rights are moving backward.
“The verdict’s message to victims of domestic violence is … be afraid to stand up and speak out.” Those sentiments had been echoed previously by attorney Lisa Bloom, who just so happened to have represented Harvey Weinstein.
She had recently expanded on how the outcome of the case had an impact on how she advised her clients when it came to making allegations against men. As a result, Bloom admitted that her clients were worried that the Depp and Heard precedent could work against women.
In her comments at the time, Lisa remarked: “I had to advise two women today that if they speak out about their sexual assaults, they can be sued.
“Even if they don’t name their abuser.Even if they don’t identify him by job or relationship. One wept at being silenced. The fallout from (Depp vs. Heard).”
The public response on social media was far from sympathetic, though. A significant proportion of fans were of the view that Heard had been exposed and held accountable.
Therefore, she deserved what was coming her way. One person wrote: “Because that all there is left for her. Without him, she is history. Forgotten history.”
