Caitlyn Jenner sparked a heated debate during a recent appearance on ‘Good Morning Britain’ when she clashed with co-hosts Britain’s Susanna Reid and Adil Ray on the topic of transgender athletes participating in women’s sports. Caitlyn might have valuable insight on trans athletes competing in sports, considering she is both an Olympic gold medalist and a transgender woman. But Caitlyn caused quite a stir when she sided with the swimming governing body’s ban on transgender female athletes.
Caitlyn has been vocal about her stance on transgender women who have have experienced male puberty being able to compete against biological women in sports. “Women that have been through male puberty, I don’t think they should be able to compete against women.

They just have too much of an advantage. It’s not fair,” she explained while on GMB. But Susanna Reid quickly disagreed with her, firing back, “There are a lot of transgender athletes who disagree with you – and even people who aren’t transgender – Tom Daley, our diver, says he’s furious about the decision that was made by the regulating body.”
But Caitlyn refused to back down, saying, “Everyone can be furious, I don’t care, that’s my decision. I’m out to protect women in sports and that’s why I got involved with the W Series”. Adil Ray then felt compelled to interject, telling Caitlyn, “‘Your very own CEO of the W Series Catherine Bond Muir says she has no issue with transgender women taking part.” Caitlyn quickly responded, “We had one trans woman try out for the team and didn’t make it. In motor racing, it’s all about the stopwatch, she wasn’t even close. It’s such a small issue. There’s so few trans people in the world.”
The former Olympian has always been outspoken against allowing trans women to compete against biological women. When FINA announced their new policy to keep things fair on the field, Caitlyn expressed delight in the decision. “It worked! I took a lot of heat – but what’s fair is fair! If you go through male puberty you should not be able to take medals away from females. Period.’”
FINA’s new policy comes after UPenn swimmer Lia Thomas made a big splash in the world of women’s swimming, after having lived most of her life as a male and going through male puberty before transitioning to a woman. Thomas would consistently crush the competition, even females who competed at the highest level, sparking outrage from female competitors that claimed they didn’t stand a chance against her.
Caitlyn has also commented on Thomas specifically, saying, “’I respect her right to transition and I hope she has a wonderful, wonderful life. But she grew up as a biological boy and I don’t think it’s fair that she’s competing in women’s sports”.
