For the last couple of years, Roman Reigns has been the talk of the WWE as he finally broke through as a heel of being forced on us as a face.
He’s beaten everyone with and without help on his way to claiming the Universal and WWE Championship.
In the midst of all of that, Reigns also signed a new contract with the WWE that reportedly has him attending fewer shows, and that’s left the title scene vacant on Raw and sporadic appearances on Smackdown.
While it’s great for him, it’s ruffled a few feathers storyline wise and other in some cases.
Drew speaks up
One of Reigns’ main opponents over the years is Drew McIntyre, but the pair only wrestled once in a singles match following Reigns’ return as the Tribal Chief, and that was at the Survivor Series when they were both champions.
As a dominant champion and challenger, Drew’s been eyeing the titles Reigns has since he went to Smackdown through the draft, and he recently appears on WWE The Bump to talk about Reigns’ contract and wanting those championships.
“His confidence is at an all-time high. We’ve always known how good Roman is. He’s always been incredible in the ring. He was always holding back in a certain way and I guess that was his character and who he was outside the ring because in the end, that’s the real Roman, he’s all about him or his family, as he claims, but inevitably he’s all about himself.
“Since he’s embraced his true self, he’s gone to levels that most of us could never even imagine, so good for him. Bad for us. He’s got both the titles, he’s not on all the shows. We need those titles back, and I don’t hold it against him. He didn’t offer the contract. He signed the contract so if he’s not always there then that’s cool, but we need those titles back. We need somebody to step up. We need someone to take him down.”
Strong words from one of the industry’s top performers. The WWE has had part timer champions before with Brock Lesnar, but this may be the first time a borderline part timer has both belts.
Getting his shot
Drew will have his chance to end Reigns’ reign at WWE Clash at the Castle in Cardiff, Wales on September 3.
It marks the WWE’s first major event in Europe in 30 years, and it’s a stadium match the WWE wants for their two biggest stars.
This is going to be a match we don’t want to miss. Do you think Drew will be able to follow through and win the titles, or will he be another notch on Reigns’ belt? Let us know in the comments below.
